Paige Parker is the writer and director of the new short film "Saturday" about dysfunctional families and alcoholism. Although alcoholism features prominently, the main focus is on children in dysfunctional families, a theme Parker finds compelling. Most audience research participants mentioned enjoying another short film with this theme. Parker found that those aged 18-29 were most interested in social realism films. By developing a strong father-son relationship and making the mother the alcoholic, the film breaks stereotypes common to the genre. Parker conducted research on film review sites to better understand the target audience for social realism films. While there is little mainstream demand for shorts, Parker found an audience for film festivals and plans to submit the film to some student festivals
