What I Have Learnt About The Use
Of Technologies & How Have I
          Used Them

I have learnt how to use many to
       reach the final product.
Here is a list of all the technological

     InDesign Webcam
    YouTube E-Mail
   PowerPoint Ipod/Itunes
     Blogger Blackberry

Information communication
                technology within media
Within the media course you had to have a good understanding of ICT in order to do
well, we needed to know how to work a computer and have a decent idea on how to use
the internet to find reliable sources of information and research. When we first went into
media we were told we had to set up a blogger account and that is where all our
recordings and work would be stored this is a very efficient way of doing it meaning it is
less to physically carry around and that it is accessible anywhere.
Doing it this way has taught me that it is very important to show refinement and to
display things in a step by step fashion so it is clear and visible that I am improving in
order to gain the higher grades. As well this has set me up so I would be able to do an
online portfolio if I needed to.
Adobe Products

For many of my classmates doing this course was the first time they had used these
products but luckily for me I am studying photography at Bishop Ramsey so I have a
head start on Photoshop but I was new to InDesign.
I watched a few tutorials on YouTube for things I didn’t understand but sure enough in
next to no time I was using it fluently. In the field of work I wish to enter it is very
important I have some knowledge on how to use products like this. So I am glad I am
being taught it, and having time to learn at my own speed. One thing I did find was that it
is very hard to know everything and learn everything about these products as they keep
changing and updating but it is important to understand the basics as that rarely
changes.
Microsoft Products

I used both PowerPoint and Word in this assignment. I used word as an extra editing
process checking spelling and grammar as InDesign doesn't have that facility. I found
that sometimes it was easier to type up on these products and copy to the other
programs as Microsoft have a wider variety of fonts to chose from. This changing the
complete look of my magazine compared to someone who used adobes basic fonts.
Also I am using PowerPoint and Slideshare now to evaluate my magazine. I find this a
very clean cut way to evaluate and conclude fully.
USB, Email, Fronter, Blackberry

These are the mediums I used to transfer data from one place to another I found these
the most practical especially transferring my work from school to school. The problem
lied in the fact E-Mail and Fronter had upload limits meaning that larger files couldn’t be
posted or sent. But I have managed to work around this to still produce all the work I
needed to and to make my magazine pages.
I also found difficulty in using USB between schools as security settings at Bishop
Ramsey restrict the use of USB but again I have worked around this by working more
from home and staying behind at Ruislip High some days after school.
I used my Blackberry smartphone to read my emails on the go meaning I could easily
catch up and complete any work I miss and/or any feedback the subject supervisor gives
me I get to read sooner.
Scanner & SLR Bridge Camera

I used the scanner to put print outs of my magazine on my blog this way I could have a
hard copy to show not only my teachers but also my peers so they could help evaluate
and refine ideas. This also meant I could put my class work and feedback sheets on my
blog.
I have been using my camera right from the first school magazine task. I went round
Bishop Ramsey taking photos even then. When I had selected Maddi to be my model for
my real magazine we arranged to meet up and go to Ruislip Woods for a photo shoot
then back to hers using a backdrop in her front room. I used all the different settings on
my camera and took well over 400 photos then refined it down to just four of her that
featured in my magazine.
Internet, Webcam, Ipod/Itunes, TV
I used all of the above for research purposes. I was always looking on other magazine
companies websites and on Google images looking at magazines double page spreads.
I used TV, I made sure I caught ‘the fix’ ITV2’s ninety second showbiz news bulleting
between 11pm-11.30pm. This gave me a snippet of what was going on in the celebrity
world thus inspiring the magazine theme and other fake articles. This is similar as to how
I used iTunes I used the live top 10 to help me pick an artist and style that was current
and popular.
By using my iPod I came up with the name DoYa it is a song by the boy band McFly.
From listening to
the song as I worked on my blog the name
stuck.
Using my WebaCam I was able to take
videos of my target audience reading my
my magazine so I go their input first CLICK
hand and they helped me refine ideas.
