  What is Computer? •A computer is an electronic device. • It accepts data as input and processes it to produce the result as output. • It is used to perform arithmetic and logical operations automatically. • Computer is not an acronym, it is a word derived from a Latin word "computare" which means to calculate.

  Contd… • A computeris made up of two components - one is the hardware and the other is the software. • All physical components of computer including keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc, are a part of the hardware. • The programs and languages used by the computer are called software.
