This is God’s Word for my life in this
Place and at this Time. Today I am a
new creation in Christ, I am God’s
very own, and I KNOW He has a
purpose for my life.
Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and
news about him spread through the whole countryside.
He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone
praised him. He went to Nazareth, where he had been
brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the
synagogue, as was his custom.
He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet
Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the
place where it is written:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed
free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Isaiah 61:1-2
Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the
attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the
synagogue were fastened on him. He began by saying
to them,
“Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
Luke 4:14-21
We live in a cannibalistic world driven to control
it, consume it and conquer it.
Prisoners of Ambition (I am what I attain, rise above)
Blinded by Affluence (I am what I control)
Oppressed by Anger (I am in comparison to others)
The Gospel Alternative
1. Adoption: New Relationship to God
“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you
live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about
your adoption. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” Romans 8:15
The Gospel Alternative
2. Attitude: New Relationship to Life
Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants
to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.” Mk 9:35
The Gospel Alternative
3. Agenda: New Relationship to Time
What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet
forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their
soul? Mt 16:26
