The tax credit standoff 

The government is still shut down. Why? Because Republicans and Democrats disagree on whether to extend the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits. They were put in place during the Covid-19 pandemic and then extended through 2025. The enhanced credits did two things: increased financial help for those already eligible, and expanded eligibility to people with higher incomes.
