2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the development of Pinotage, South Africa’s very own grape variety. This October, we are proud to have partnered with the Pinotage Association, as we have over the past 30 years, to announce the winners of the 2025 Absa Top 10 Pinotage Competition. The annual competition aims to identify ten Pinotage wines that serve as a benchmark for distinctive South African Pinotage. Africa’s agricultural sector can fulfil its vast potential by drawing on best practices from across the continent. These pockets of progress can help inspire producers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to substantially boost agricultural production, making countries more food secure and prosperous. Kenya’s tea sector, for example, has clearly demonstrated the transformative potential of cooperatives. Other East African countries have worked with large multinationals to develop critical port infrastructure, such as cold storage facilities. Some West African nations have used a similar model to become key global suppliers of cashew nuts, enabled by public-private partnerships and free-market principles. At the heart of this dialogue was the Lobito Corridor—a transformative 1,300 km rail and infrastructure project connecting Angola’s port of Lobito to the mineral-rich regions of the DRC and Zambia. With over $10bn in multilateral and private investment, the Corridor is set to accelerate regional integration, trade, and industrialisation, while diversifying global supply chains for cobalt and copper. As a pan-African financial institution, Absa is committed to facilitating strategic investment that unlocks Africa’s potential.
