The Climate Change Act, 2024, has redefined how South African organisations do business, placing binding carbon budgets and emission targets on their agendas. “It signals a new era where sustainability can no longer be a feel-good option for a few passionate green champions,” John Arvanitakis, Chairperson of the Event Greening Forum, told Travel News. The act will require venues and organisers to monitor, report on and reduce their carbon footprints. “What we need now is for clients to make sustainability a non-negotiable starting point,” Arvanitakis notes.
