🚧 We’re not just building infrastructure, we’re rebuilding futures In this Business Day op-ed, Kamogelo Leeuw, our Portfolio Manager: Property at Sanlam Alternative Investments writes about the two models this high-impact team is employing to create meaningful impact in the country. "We are challenging the architecture of investment in South Africa. Public-private-partnerships have evolved to include "purpose". And our invest-own-operate-transfer (IOOT) model serves as our instrument to achieve this. By aligning public intent, private capital and purpose-driven delivery, we do more than build assets; we transform generations." Empowering growth – highlights from Sanlam SMME Collective Our SMME conference at the Sandton Convention Centre kicked off with a palpable mood: of celebration, support and connection. Phuti Senyatsi, Senior Portfolio Manager in the Sanlam Alternative Investments: SME debt team, presented on an impactful panel that highlighted the importance of unlocking capital for growth in South African small‐ and medium‐enterprises. It was a powerful reminder of the vital role SMEs play in our economy – and of the concrete ways we can help them scale and thrive. Because we know that SMEs are the backbone of job creation, innovation and inclusive growth in South Africa. Through platforms such as this, we reaffirm our commitment to not just investing capital, but unlocking opportunity, capability and networks for real impact. – with Steven Rosenberg, Robert McJannet, Nolan Ess, Seapei Mafoyane and Olwethu Masuku CA(SA) #SanlamSMMECollective #ReturnOnOpportunity #ReturnOnHumanity

Climate change is not a distant threat. It is shaping the world we live in right now. 🌍 We are acting urgently by setting 4 climate milestones that guide our decisions: 1. Active ownership for climate action: We engage investee companies on climate issues and collaborate with investor platforms like Climate Action 100+ . 2. Integrating climate into investment decisions: We factor in climate risks and opportunities, using ESG data, and disclosing carbon metrics where relevant. 3. Investing in climate solutions: We partner with Climate Fund Managers (CFM) to support funds addressing climate change impacts. 4. Backing renewable energy: We invest in energy projects via the Sustainable Infrastructure Fund. "As a sustainability-driven asset manager, our purpose is to create long-term sustainability for investors – but also for future generations and our planet. We leverage strategic partnerships to create bespoke opportunities for clients, ensuring that our global reach translates into meaningful, customised investment experiences. Our partnership with CFM since 2017, enables us to respond to the world’s urgent climate crisis, particularly in developing economies. We are proud to have facilitated this innovative and landmark financing model for the close of CI2 and look forward to the impact these funds will have for those who need it most,” says Mark Moorhouse. 📢 Climate Investor Two reaches final close at USD 1.065 billion, becoming the largest climate adaptation infrastructure fund focused on emerging markets💧 We are proud to announce the final close of our second blended finance facility, Climate Investor Two (CI2), at USD 1.065 billion, surpassing our USD 1 billion target. With new commitments of USD 190 million and a EUR 205 million EFSD+ guarantee from the European Union, CI2 blends public and private capital to co-develop water, waste and oceans infrastructure across Africa, Asia and Latin America. This milestone also marks the introduction of an innovative Bridge-to-Bond mechanism, facilitated by our strategic partner Sanlam Investments, creating a new pathway for bond investors to access CI2’s underlying assets. CFM CEO Andrew Johnstone said “While climate mitigation remains critical in the race to end the climate crisis, adaptation must be an equal priority. Closing Climate Investor Two at more than USD 1 billion in a challenging environment is a major milestone that highlights investor appetite for adaptation and our ability to structure compelling opportunities in this space. With the support of Sanlam Investments and the European Union, we have been able to pioneer the new Bridge-to-Bond mechanism, opening access to climate finance for a much broader group of investors.” We thank our investors and partners for their shared commitment to delivering infrastructure that strengthens resilience where it’s needed most. The rand, bonds and bright spots for SA. Not just good news – it’s hard-earned progress. "Optimism is a rare commodity in financial markets, yet South Africa currently finds itself in an unexpectedly favourable position. The rand, local bonds and key commodities have all shown resilience, defying the subdued expectations that marked the start of the year," our Head of Fixed Income Strategy and portfolio manager, James Turp discusses in this Business Day TV interview. Few would’ve predicted this kind of resilience in South Africa’s markets, but with R164 billion in foreign bond inflows year-to-date, a strengthening rand and the SARB doubling down on its credibility by targeting 3% inflation, it is a noteworthy moment, says James. "South Africa’s challenges remain, growth is weak, unemployment is high, and external risks persist. But there are genuine bright spots. The path ahead won’t be linear, but the evidence suggests that the outlook for the rand, bonds, and investor confidence is stronger today than many would have believed just months ago."Watch the full interview here: 📎 https://lnkd.in/dmcxjAdh

Global tensions and volatility are reshaping markets. In 2025, the VIX (Volatility Index) spiked above 50, reminding us that disciplined risk management is key to resilience. When capital is preserved during volatile periods, it remains available for the green infrastructure, climate solutions and environmental projects our planet desperately needs. 🔗 Read James Turp’s insights on managing volatility for long-term impact: https://bit.ly/42XStrN/ #SanlamInvestments #RiskManagement #SustainableInvesting #ESG
