🌐 As official aid declines, African development banks are stepping up with innovative tools such as bond issuances and securitisation to fill the gap. The African Development Fund’s plan to access global markets in 2027 is a milestone in this journey.   For Finance in Common Chair Rémy Rioux, the lesson is clear: “The world of Public Development Banks has been fragmented too long.”   By standardising practices, scaling bond issuance, and fostering collaboration between large and small institutions, we can unlock far greater impact. South Africa’s National Treasury and the African Development Bank Group co-hosted the first consultative meeting in Pretoria to accelerate cross-border infrastructure in Africa.      Built on South Africa’s G20 deliverables, the initiative features a comprehensive Toolkit—developed with African Development Bank Group, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and the The World Bank — to help nations overcome barriers to planning, financing, and delivering transformative infrastructure.      With strong backing from 15 African countries, RECs, African Union, and AUDA NEPAD the meeting explored four key pillars: updated infrastructure data, project pipeline development, strengthened governance frameworks, and innovative financing to attract private investment.      The Ubuntu Initiative transforms African integration from vision to action—scaling proven solutions and unlocking funding for a prosperous, peaceful, and united continent.      Next stop: G20 Infrastructure Working Group, September 2025.     Learn more: http://bit.ly/3Udjxyw #IntegrateAfrica

Drawing from the report The Cost of Media Stereotypes to Africa, she highlights how global perceptions are inflating Africa’s risk premium, raising the cost of borrowing by up to $4.2 billion each year. Key insights include: 📊 88% of global articles about Kenya and 69% about Nigeria carried a negative tone during election periods, compared to just 48% for Malaysia. 💸 Persistent negative coverage leads investors to demand higher interest rates, inflating debt servicing costs. 🌍 If Egypt were covered as positively as Thailand (a country with a similar risk profile), its bond yields could fall by almost one percentage point, saving hundreds of millions annually.
