From Infrastructure to Impact: Digital Inclusion to Solve Real Problems. As South Africa faces persistent socio-economic challenges, we are moving beyond infrastructure deployment to address the root causes affecting people’s lives. At Cassava Technologies, we are shifting from being just a provider of fibre, cloud, cyber security, AI Factory (Compute) and data centre services to becoming a partner in digital transformation and inclusive growth. This starts with empathy — understanding real challenges on the ground: unsafe communities, water insecurity, overburdened clinics, and unemployed youth. This has urged us to define the real problems, co-create solutions, and apply technology as an enabler — not the outcome. But solving these problems also requires digital inclusion: making sure that everyone, regardless of geography or income, has access to digital infrastructure, skills, tools, and platforms. Without it, the digital economy remains a privilege; with it, it becomes a catalyst for shared prosperity. I envision that cloud-based platforms enables telemedicine in remote and town clinics. Fibre-connected command centres use AI to reduce gang violence. Sensors and AI help municipalities detect water loss in informal areas. AI labs in townships up-skill young people for real employment and effective start ups through real entrepreneurship. This is the power of Digital Inclusion: it unlocks inclusive economic growth by reducing inequality, improving public services, and expanding participation in the digital economy. Together, we can move from technology rollouts to real-life impact — building safer, healthier, more empowered communities. We must now design with our people and communities, not just for them. That’s how we ensure technology works for everyone. #DigitalInclusion #Innovation .#Africa #AfricaTech #InclusiveGrowth #SocialInnovation

Financial Intelligence Centre
CASE STUDY: The Financial Intelligence Centre worked with the Asset Forfeiture Unit, South African Revenue Service, the South African Police Service, the South African Banking Risk Information Centre and various banking institutions to uncover a phishing scam. Phishers clone bank accounts using sophisticated devices. After the phishers have identified a potential phishing victim, they contact SIM swappers to block the owner’s cell phone number so that account holders do not receive transaction notifications. This allows the phishers to log into the victim’s account and transfer money out of it. The money is then immediately withdrawn from different ATMs, after which the cards used at the ATMs are discarded. Mobile service provider employees are paid for assisting with the SIM swap, while the rest of the money is deposited into the accounts of the main phishers. With the FIC’s assistance, law enforcement arrested some of the subjects and seized laptops and cell phones. Three of the perpetrators were sentenced to between 15 and 20 years in prison. www.fic.gov.za

ZF Engineering Solutions
Cybersecurity is a continuous journey. In a world of ransomware, spear-phishing, and supply chain attacks, securing a product once is simply not enough. Regulations like the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), UNECE R155/156, ISO 24882, IEC 62443, and many others reflect this reality. They all share the same goal: protecting customers and companies. Security must be embedded from the very beginning – across planning, development, production, and maintenance. The key is to evolve your existing processes thoughtfully, rather than creating a separate burdensome pillar for cybersecurity. Efficient and effective measures that integrate seamlessly into your workflows are what drive long-term success. At ZF Engineering Solutions, we’ve seen it all – the good, the bad, and the challenging: • We’ve seen stand-alone cybersecurity processes and successfully reshaped them, eliminating overlap with already established engineering tasks. • We’ve identified commonalities across lifecycle phases and distilled them into lean, cost-effective practices. • We’ve tailored activities to customer and supplier contexts while maintaining technical quality and compliance. Looking to build or optimize your cybersecurity processes? We’re here to support you – please contact Christian Becker and his team if you have any questions or would like to learn more.

🔒 South Africa’s financial regulators are raising the bar on cyber resilience. Financial institutions must now: 1️⃣ Strengthen IT governance. 2️⃣ Involve boards directly in oversight of cyber risk readiness and response. 3️⃣ Report and respond to material cyber incidents. A new draft framework sets out how incidents must be reported to the PA and FSCA, requiring prompt initial notification, structured follow-ups and a comprehensive final report. Why it matters: cyber threats can disrupt customers, operations and the wider financial system. Financial sector regulators require institutions to demonstrate cyber resilience and accountability. Read more: https://bit.ly/3Knuiwn How is your organisation preparing for these new expectations? Here at Clyde & Co, we support our clients with market-leading Cyber Readiness services including incident response planning, board training, tabletop exercises and cyber risk simulations. For guidance, contact Christopher MacRoberts, Lee Astfalck and Reece Martin.
