Hello everyone,
I hope this message finds you well.
Has anyone else encountered issues with conditional formatting in the card (new) visual? This feature worked perfectly prior to the latest version of Power BI Desktop, released in April 2025. The issue arises when navigating to Format > Visual > Cards > Background. When attempting to apply a background colour based on a measure's value in conditional formatting, it no longer functions correctly—the background remains white, regardless of the colour returned by the measure.
Interestingly, if you change the background colour without using conditional formatting (i.e., in regular mode), it works as expected. However, the conditional formatting specifically does not apply the intended background colours.
I would greatly appreciate any support or insights regarding this matter.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi @Jsivihwa ,
It looks like you're not alone—there have been similar reports from users experiencing issues with conditional formatting on the new card visual in the April 2025 Power BI update. This seems to be a regression or a potential bug introduced in the latest version. As you mentioned, the static background color works fine, but the conditional formatting using a measure no longer updates the background as expected, which points to a rendering or logic break in the new visual behavior.
For now, a potential workaround would be to revert to the previous card visual (the classic version, if still available) or to use a different visual like a multi-row card, table, or even matrix with conditional formatting until Microsoft addresses the issue. It's also a good idea to report the bug through the Power BI feedback portal or Issues forum, and monitor the monthly Power BI release notes or patch updates for any hotfixes. In the meantime, ensure your measure is returning the expected color format (like "#FF0000") and double-check that the field is correctly linked in the conditional formatting pane, just to rule out any other misconfigurations.

has anyone experienced a resolution for this yet with the new KPI card visual? Really hate having to rebuild some dashboards with the old card visual, super tedious.
Hello @justadashboard ,
there was a new release yesterday to a new power bi version, it may have fixed the issue.
check it out https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58494

I checked yesterday and it worked already
Experiencing the same issues too
Hi, appreciate if you could fix this bug as soon as possible as it is affecting the UI of our dashboard. The classic card visual does not provide the same level of customization settings. Thank you.
this is incredibly annoying but I also had to revert to classic card visual 😭
Yes we are having the same bug, sadly! Thinking about just switching our visuals to the old card, but then we can't left-align. Sad.
The same error occurred here. I suggested downloading an older version.
Yes, there are many issues related to the New Card Visual. SVG URLs, Conditional Formatting, Values still visible after they are configured as hidden.
Hello @Jsivihwa ,
the new card visual is also facing issues with SVGs

Thank you very much @rohit1991. Although it took me quite some time, I eventually opted for using the traditional visual card format, and this solution works perfectly.
I will report this issue on the Power BI feedback portal.
Hi @Jsivihwa .
The new card visual still is in preview so expect for some bugs. Use it but with caution.
