Graphics and bookmarks

I'm using bookmarks to show and hide a chart in Power BI. I also use this chart to segment data on my dashboard. When I hide the chart, the selection I used to segment the data disappears. How can I prevent the selection from disappearing when I hide the chart?

Hi @svargasroca  ,

Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.

What you're trying to achieve makes a lot of sense and would be very valuable for interactive dashboards. I’d recommend submitting this as a feature request in the official Power BI Ideas forum:

The Product team actively reviews suggestions there, and if others in the community upvote it, it could be considered for future updates.

Hello,

I'm sorry, I couldn't explain the problem.

With Slicer it works:

But, With Chart it doesn't work:

hello @svargasroca

i think this happens because when in slicer the filter is still applied, while in chart the filter is gone.

- Slicer

- Chart

Irwan_1-1744067281360.png

even when you hide and unhide the visual, the filter is kept in slicer while the filter is gone in chart.

maybe you can try submitting idea for this.

Hope this will help.

Thank you.

Hi @svargasroca ,

Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.

Steps to prevent the selection from disappearing when hiding the chart.

1.Go to the View tab and open the Bookmarks Pane and Selection Pane.

Create two bookmarks:

Bookmark 1 (Chart Visible): Show the chart and set the desired filter/slicer state.

Bookmark 2 (Chart Hidden): Hide the chart but do NOT clear the slicer or filter selections.

In the Bookmark settings, uncheck the option “Data” if you don’t want the data state (filters, slicers) to change. This keeps the slicer selections intact.

2.Adjust the "Update" Option for Bookmarks:

When you create a bookmark, make sure to update it after adjusting the chart visibility. This ensures the bookmark captures the current state, including the slicer/filter settings.

3.Use a Duplicate Chart (Workaround):

Instead of hiding the chart, consider overlaying two versions of the chart: One for when you want it visible. One for when you want it hidden (with transparent background). Toggle their visibility using bookmarks without affecting the slicer state.

4.Alternative Approach - Using Slicers Directly:

If the chart is used primarily for segmentation, consider using slicers instead of relying on the chart for filtering. Slicers maintain their selections even when visuals are hidden.

Hi @svargasroca

If i understood you correctly , you need to remove tick from data in the both of bookmarks :

Ritaf1983_0-1743855664040.png

The result :

Ritaf1983_1-1743855732528.png

Filtered:

hello @svargasroca

i might be misunderstood your problem, but as far as my knowledge, bookmark and hide visual does not change any value.

here, i made a simple example:

Irwan_1-1743809833396.png

when i hid one of the card, the measure has same value as above.

Irwan_2-1743809861059.png

in addition, bookmark is "capturing" the visuals that you want to show in a report page similar as shortcut to set of visuals so there is no value change in bookmark.

otherwise, please explain more in-detail the problem so experts here can give you an exact solution you need.

Hope this will help.
Thank you.
