Power BI New Matrix visual layout

With the recent Microsoft Power BI update, we have got three different layouts in the matrix visual which are Compact, Outline and Tabular. In this article, we will be showcasing and explaining each layout in detail.

Description: -(I) Compact - Total at the bottom and sub row header in the same line.(II) Outline – Total at the top and sub row header in the next line.(III) Tabular - Total at the bottom and sub row header in the next line.

Below are the steps  to use the different layouts in a matrix visual: -

1. Open the  Power BI Desktop.

2. Create a Power BI matrix visual with multiple fields in the row section.

   

   3. The ‘format’ section has a new update “layout and style presets” under layout and style presets.

    4. We need to expand the layout by clicking on the “layout and style presets” .After that we will click on the “layout” to design the Matrix . Three different options (Compact, Outline and Tabular) will appear in the Layout and you can also choose the Style by default or another option from the Style Dropdown.

5.  Choosing the “Compact layout” is similar to a turned-on stepped layout option in an earlier update.

 

6. We choose the “outline” layout. The outline layout you can see now is very similar to the stepped layout switch off but the totals are on the top.

7. Again, we choose the “tabular” from the layout dropdown. Total at the bottom and sub-row header in the next line.

8. The “Repeat row header” we can simply toggle this feature ‘on’ and you now have the headers repeating in our matrix tab

9. We can also use the  “blank rows” toggle option for the blank row to handle the unwanted blank row u
