Issues with Combined ODBC and Web Connections in Power BI Gateway

I am experiencing issues with my Power BI report refresh in the PROD environment. The report contains one ODBC connection configured inside the gateway and three web connections. Here are the details:

  1. ODBC Connection: This connection is configured inside the gateway and works fine on its own.
  2. Web Connections: These connections work fine when tested in isolation (without the ODBC connection) and can be set up either inside the gateway or as cloud connections.

Problem: When the ODBC connection is included in the PBIX file along with the three web connections, the refresh fails. The web connections do not work either inside the gateway or as cloud connections when combined with the ODBC connection.

  • The local environment with a gateway does not have this issue; the refresh works fine web connections.
  • Proxy settings have been verified and are correctly configured.

Hey actually the issue got resolved . I contacted my network team and they identified that somehow the IP address for the web connection was blocked and marked as a threat , hence the request was not able to send any outbound connection . Thanks for the replies .

Hi @ArjunBS

Another option you could look into is to changing the privacy settings to make them set to be ignored. This can also help fix the issues when you're combining data from an ODBC and Web connection.

Here is a setting that you can change in the options in power BI desktop.

@ArjunBS It might be due to authentication conflicts between ODBC and web connections when combined in the same dataset. Ensure the gateway mashup engine is updated and set consistent privacy levels ("Organizational") for all data sources. Verify both connections are configured under the same gateway cluster with correct credentials. If the issue persists, consider centralizing data integration in a cloud solution or contact Microsoft Support with detailed error logs.
