Notability problems[edit]

Hi, you seem to have missed this, so the next one got this. Just some friendly pointers, and a request to keep an eye out for reviews of, and feedback on, your contributions via Recent Changes. Thanks. --Xymph (talk) 13:43, 18 December 2022 (CST)

I will agree that Gman's area of coverage is far broader than Doom, but icarausLIVES is clearly primarily Doom focused, but as you suggested perhaps a list of Doom related content creators is more useful. I do feel that the wiki does need to acknowledge that nowadays many players find out about mods from YouTube in particular, and not just from channels from established mappers. Technopeasant1994 (talk) 15:01, 18 December 2022 (CST)
Thanks for the quick follow-up, but your comments on icarausLIVES are better placed on that pertaining talk page. PS. For Wikipedia links, please switch to the wp template. That page has a lot more good advice. --Xymph (talk) 15:10, 18 December 2022 (CST)

WAD articles[edit]

Hi! Pretty nice to see the enthusiasm going, but I do want to point out that some of your contributions are in some dire need of tweaks, so, here's some advice:

  1. Try to make your first edits as complete as you can instead of going edit after edit after edit. Make your first page creation is beefy enough that it includes all the essentials. In the case of WAD articles, please use the correct WAD template first.
  2. If a WAD or map template doesn't cover an special kind of category (like the techbase map category, for example), make sure to add it manually at the end of the page.
  3. When listing the maps, use the maplinkgen template. This is very important for the article to be fully completed with the help of Xymph's bot.
  4. Don't forget to add external links and citations/references when needed.
  5. If you are going to add external web or magazine articles, I think it is better to use them as sources for important citations, instead of just listing every single article you can find, use the essentials only.
  6. If you are having issues, look for any of the recently created WAD articles and just copy, paste and replace data as you go. That's how I learned. Compare pages and look for similarly formatted articles and you should have all you need.

Hope this isn't too daunting at first. I see you have previous wiki experience so you should catch up on this pretty quickly. - Endless01 (talk) 06:05, 20 December 2022 (CST)

Titles[edit]

Titles of games that are covered on this wiki as core content are not italicized in articles. This should be very easily noticeable by reading pretty much any article on the wiki, so please follow it going forward. --Quasar (talk) 12:25, 21 December 2022 (CST)

Will do. Technopeasant1994 (talk) 19:18, 21 December 2022 (CST)

Cites, wad author links[edit]

Hi, you keep using {{cite web}} as if you're on Wikipedia. Our template has several different parameters, please take that into account in future use.
Also, author(s) in the {{wad}} template should not be linked. That because for single-level WADs, the name automatically adds the "<name> levels" category, which would break with a link. For clarity and consistency, the field should therefore never be linked. --Xymph (talk) 03:07, 29 December 2023 (CST)

I shall refer to your examples in the future. Technopeasant1994 (talk) 14:32, 29 December 2023 (CST)

Animosity source[edit]

Please clarify the relationship between your article and the one on Libregamewiki, which is almost word for word the same, but the latter predates the former. Should Libregamewiki be credited as source here? Edit: Nevermind, I see that you are Piga, author of the latter. --Xymph (talk) 06:09, 21 January 2024 (CST)

Yes, I retain the copyrights for the edits as the original writer. Thanks for checking. Technopeasant1994 (talk) 10:35, 21 January 2024 (CST)

Hey, speaking of sources, don't include my name on stuff I had nothing to do with!!! Sodaholic (talk) 15:04, 3 February 2024 (CST)

Doomworld forums post - but by all means correct me if I misinterpreted. Technopeasant1994 (talk) 15:08, 3 February 2024 (CST)
I just read the old thread. I'd forgotten I actually liked the project idea at the time (my views have changed since). I claimed to have started on an IWAD, I now vaguely recall that all I did was open SLADE or something to study the structure. I didn't do anything. Be careful making assumptions (I should tell myself this as well). Sodaholic (talk) 15:10, 3 February 2024 (CST)
I personally would say I merely took a statement at face value, rather than second guessing, even if I did suspect it was little more than opening up SLADE. I agree it is not worth mentioning in the article though. Technopeasant1994 (talk) 15:16, 3 February 2024 (CST)

Preview[edit]

Hi, can you please reduce spamming Recent Changes by Previewing your edits (repeatedly), instead of submitted every little change? And please also put more care into building/formatting citations, as I've had to fix a lot of them lately. One thing in particular is that article authors should be credited "last name, first name". Thanks. --Xymph (talk) 10:55, 14 July 2024 (CDT)

I will bear in mind last name first. On Wikipedia they have first and last name fields that will automatically order them. Maybe that could be ported to the Doom Wiki cite tag? Technopeasant1994 (talk) 17:53, 14 July 2024 (CDT)
Maybe, but not sure if we'd want that. The Doom Wiki is not Wikipedia, some things work differently. --Xymph (talk) 02:58, 15 July 2024 (CDT)
Thank you for the date tips and all your general fixes. Technopeasant1994 (talk) 08:13, 3 August 2024 (CDT)

Platform articles[edit]

Platform articles on the Doom Wiki are meant to address how the platform is relevant to Doom. The massive dumps of irrelevant information you're adding to them do not adhere to our mission. Please reconsider adding any further such information and I would say expect to see a good deal redacted. The Apple Macintosh article has become an unrecognizable info dump since the last time I looked at it and I am not sure why other staff members approved these additions to begin with. --Quasar (talk) 23:30, 14 August 2024 (CDT)

Technopeasant1994 is an editor, so contributions don't require approval. And this started with a few additions that seemed relevant (enough), so I just fixed some mistakes. As the additions grew (and grew), I did start to wonder where to draw the line, but then it's like feature creep: it's hard to stop. I guess it takes the return of a pair of admin eyes to realize that the line was crossed some time ago. --Xymph (talk) 01:31, 15 August 2024 (CDT)
I will go and rehome the more tangential details. Researching got the better of me I am afraid. Apologies. Technopeasant1994 (talk) 08:13, 15 August 2024 (CDT)
Cleaned up Atari, Amiga and RISC OS articles. Technopeasant1994 (talk) 19:34, 15 August 2024 (CDT)

Relaunched the info here. https://breezewiki.com/90sfps/wiki/Non-PC_platforms Technopeasant1994 (talk) 08:13, 22 August 2024 (CDT)

With the Linux links, I'm afraid you again went (vastly) overboard; I removed almost all. See also here. --Xymph (talk) 04:08, 16 December 2024 (CST)

Killing Time on Linux?[edit]

Hi, your addition was reverted by an anon without proper motivation, so I'm inclined to reject that change. Could you comment on why you added the sentence or why someone might think it's not correct? --Xymph (talk) 10:52, 13 December 2024 (CST)

I would actually agree with the anon that Killing Time does not need to be mentioned in that particular section of the article. Feels like a rather random tidbit of information to throw in there. Better add it to the lede where Strife is also mentioned. --Gregor (talk) 11:20, 13 December 2024 (CST)
Yeah, it was a bit clunky. I have added ProtonDB and Wine AppDB section in the external links instead. Technopeasant1994 (talk) 18:13, 13 December 2024 (CST)

In this edit the same soundtrack is used, with different footage. Me thinks the first video is wrong. --Xymph (talk) 06:47, 19 December 2024 (CST)

Steam titles[edit]

This has been going around in the back of mind for a while: in this edit a ton of indie games were added, all with redlinks. Are they going to be meaningful to the Doom Wiki? Are you actually planning to cover all of them within a reasonable time frame (say, this decade), or do you expect others to? If the answer to either or both questions is, (probably) no(t), then I think these just boost our wanted pages count for no particular reason. The Indie games page also lists many titles, but without unnecessary redlinks. Want do you think of exercising the same restraint on the Steam page? Then, if a specific title does eventually get covered, it obviously can be linked as yet. --Xymph (talk) 12:17, 28 December 2024 (CST)

I went ahead and de-linked them. Technopeasant1994 (talk) 17:11, 28 December 2024 (CST)

Animosity collection[edit]

Hello, I'd like to know if you are still updating the collection of works for Animosity on OpenGameArt. I left a comment on the collection a while ago and I'm still sending a few other links with artwork there. Mostly disregard that first comment, from what I understood you are only collecting the artwork while not wanting to be an active part of the potential project, is that right?
