oh wow, this is so nicely done.... passed the vibe check 😤 fantastic visuals and engaging gameplay. though the game froze on me a couple times

The vibes of this game are really cool.  Unfortunately, I seem to be softlocked in the game.  I get through the intro, get told I can use right click to show or hide the latern, and I am just stuck on a screen with what looks like a fire.  No matter where I click on the screen I cannot proceed.  Tried a few times and I always get stuck there.

Looks like you did a great job, wish I could play.

Developer

There should be a W at the top of the screen, but with a stylised font I could see how some people could miss that. You move with WASD, or arrow keys. I probably should have mentioned the movement in the intro but I thought the little keys I put in the first level were enough, but I might have to rethink that.

Submitted(+1)

Oh, I see that now.  The font on the W kind of makes it look like just part of the environment.  Cool, I'll give this another go.

Super captivating experience from the very beginning. I love the sound effects you have, and the low bit hum that goes throughout really sets the tone!

Developer(+1)

I was actually quite worried about the sound effects because I knew they were important but usually sucked at making them lol. Luckily I found a new sound tool half way through that let me make some pretty good sounds so overall I'm quite happy with it.  And the ambience was surprisingly hard to get right so I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

I liked a lot the ambiance ! The sound effect, the transitions and the visual effects added a lot to this, very polished game !

The gameplay is interesting, it takes a bit of time to get use to the behaviour of the monster, and the text explaining it changed a bit too fast for me (even if english is not my first language I usually  read it pretty fast)

I'm not that good with this system so I wasn't able to go far, but I liked a lot the experience and the work that has been put to make it enjoyable to play ! Good job !

Developer(+1)

I didn't find the text to be too fast, but you're right. I probably should have made the text slower for people with English as a second language and relied more on people skipping text to read it at their own pace. I'm glad you could still enjoy the game though, thanks for playing!

really polished entry. The transitions from scene to scene look really good - and the little camera sway adds a lot.

I like the traversal between scenes, but getting random stuff from the piles and offering them didn't really click with me.

Am I playing into the devils tricks? How is going outside and digging corpses out of the snow gonna keep me warm? x)

Developer

Thanks, I tried to polish this as much as I could. And since the game is so artistically simple I had to figure out some ways to make it more interesting, I'm glad you enjoyed them! But yeah, the gameplay isn't for everyone which is fair enough. And the story is that you're offering to the devil to make him stronger so he can heal you, there's already a fire there to keep you warm lol. I'll let you guess what the unguessable twist is in the end. Thanks for playing though!

Really well presented, the vibe was super cool.  It was a bit confusing how it told me to close the windows but you could only hold them temporarily (for me at least?) so it was strange that you could die within the first few seconds by not moving from the first screen.  Would have preferred if they stayed closed.

Unfortunately a little too creepy for me!  Very atmospheric though.

Developer

Yeah, it doesn't really make sense that you can't just keep the windows closed, but if you could the game would be pretty damn boring! It just makes for better gameplay to only be able to hold them temporarily. Thanks for the feedback though, and thanks for playing!

Wow, really impressive game, loved the art and visual style, and the audio gave a really great atmosphere with great audio cues. Found it really immersive with a solid gameplay loop, kept me trying again and again, although in the end I couldn't get past day 4, but I did feel I was starting to get the hang of it! Not the type of thing I usually play but I highly enjoyed it. Felt like a good difficulty curve as well, gradually introducing new mechanics, even though I couldn't get any further I felt like I was getting better at recognising the different cues etc. Definitely one I would happily come back to or watch a full playthrough of. Great work!!

Thanks for the kind words! One of the things I focussed the most on with this jam was a good sense of progression, making sure the player wasn't overwhelmed or underwhelmed through the game. That's also why the first night has no monsters, just to learn controls to then move into the actual game.  I'm happy that I seemed to have got the progression right. Thanks a lot for playing the game and enjoying it!

The gameplay isn't for me personally, I just don't enjoy this five nights at freddys style. but full marks for every other category. atmospheric and well presented game.

Developer

That's fair, thanks for giving it a go though!

Most challenging. Especially the last part. This game makes my hand hurt, but I've beaten the final part. Very nice visuals, I really like the dither effect when fading in/out.

Developer

Well done on beating the last level, I may have made it a tad harder than it should have been. And yes my hand was hurting a bit after playtesting for a while lol, thanks for playing!

I went straight to the Windows version and didn't get any freeze, etc.

What can I say - great mechanics, good implementation, awesome visuals.

Absence of music it's rather an advantage so the player can better concentrate on sound effects, which are super cool.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and for the kind words!

Oh, I can already tell the typing sound effects from this game are going to stick in my head for a long time.

Developer

It is a pretty nice sound, and I almost forgot to put it in lol. Thanks for playing!

My browser can not work well when i run the game. Idk why. I tried many times. When I was able to play, play frame didnt work properly.

Developer(+1)

Yeah sorry, Godot web exports are still a bit weird I think, especially on Mac. I'll have to look into how to export onto Macs or some way around it, sorry again.

amazing game!!! i was enthralled the entire time I was playing it. the art is really good, the music set the scene really well, clever use of sound effects for the three monster types, and overall really spooky! and fun! i couldn't finish the last level though it was too difficult :( and I managedto crash the game by dying in between areas during the transition.

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the kind feedback! And I was worried that the final level was too hard, but if it wasn't hard enough it wouldn't feel right, but maybe I'll have to tone it down a bit after all. And do you mean that it crash after you died while moving between levels, or between the areas in the levels (like moving from the door to the window)?

Submitted(+1)

i completely understand what you mean about the difficulty of the last level it wouldn't feel quite the same if it was way easier... but I will admit I didn't realise you could use ANY three offerings I thought you had to have one of each :p but maybe slightly less outside spider attacks. it was between the middle outside and the left outside so areas in the levels. i wish you the best of luck!

Developer(+1)

It shouldn't be able to crash there, but I'll have to have a look anyway, thanks for letting me know!
