Hello all!

We’ve only made two games so far and we’re realizing that we’re severely lacking in the 2D art department. I’m a graphic designer who dabbles in art/illustration but I’m finding the level of skill required far exceeds mine.

Right now we’re working on v2.0 of our Trials of Madness game (dungeon crawler). Originally our first ever game jam we’ve spent a lot of time polishing mechanics, adding new gameplay and puzzles and new areas. We’re nearly done too, but art is holding up the process and we need help! We’re seeking to collaborate with someone as a park of our team for this project and potentially future projects. I should clarify that we’re not hiring an artist atm, just looking to find someone who is skilled with art who also wants to make games for fun and join us on jams.

These are the things we need help with:

- 3 enemies art w/ animations (walking and attacking only/goop, Eldritch Illithid cultist & final boss)

- 3 tilesets (underground, dungeon & temple/walls & floors)

- 5 character art (seen on the selection screen and also as their profile photo in the corner when they play that character. Knight, wizard, rogue, bard and cat 🐈‍⬛)

We were aiming for a simple, flat color style for the art. The animations I made are 3 frames max, so we’re not expecting anything crazy. Mostly just want to find someone who can help us complete our first ever game project so we can post v2!

The game itself is a dark fantasy with a smidge of humor, where adventurers find themselves transported to an Eldritch cults long abandoned dungeon and the only way to escape is by completing the trials of madness.

V1 is available below, but if you’re interested in seeing the current version (which is WAY better) feel free to message me.

I loved this so much! Playing a paranormal investigator, romping through an old horror-filled mansion, traveling to a cosmic world; it was pure cosmic horror perfection. Your level design was stellar and I was a big fan of the turn-based combat. So far my favorite entry I've played. Well done!

I had a bit of a rough start, not realizing that combat was restricted to enemies within range and not finding the invisible wall in the beginning made me think it wasn't working. But after reviewing the comments found the wall and continued on my adventure. The atmosphere in this game is GREAT. I really liked it when entering a new area and the lights glowing when you get close to them. Really cool idea. I found combat to be tricky and a little clunky, but also intense and rewarding. Those dudes with the fireballs were terrifying. Story fit the theme of solitude well and the enemy art/designs were 10/10. Great job!

Thanks so much! We had a blast making it and are extra proud of how the trial of fear turned out.

We're glad you liked it! If you're getting stuck in the blue trial area, try "left wall strats": Make your way through by only turning left when the opportunity presents itself, eventually you're bound to make your way through the whole thing and find the door your key goes to. The map might also come in handy to show where you haven't been yet.
I'm also fairly certain we encountered that bug during development and thought we'd fixed it. We'll take a look at it again! Thanks for your lovely comment and feedback, best of luck behind the blue door! :]

Well done you guys, this was fantastic! I loved the humor and the combat was really neat.

The atmosphere, aesthetic and visual design are super cool! I love the cosmic horror vibes, the falling floors and of course your very cool Cthulu monsters. I had a bit of trouble with combat, as it was rather buggy (animations didn't line up with attacks even when dodging, they'd do a death animation and then pop back up to do it again). But otherwise, very cool game. Well done you all. :)

I’d like to know the answer to this as well! I’m using 2D assets but I want to make it more sci fi. Tweaking color goes a long way but I’m curious of making slight changes that don’t take away from the original art. :)

10/10! I loved the atmosphere and the alien swooping in and out of door locks was terrifying. The moment when the music kicks in with the alarms was perfection. Thanks for a good game~
