Anesthesiology

At the forefront of patient care and innovation, the Department of Anesthesiology at Temple University Health System is home to more than 150 dedicated clinical professionals. Our team delivers expert anesthetic and perioperative care across the health system—from operating rooms and procedural suites to intensive care units—while also serving as trusted consultants in managing complex acute and chronic pain.

We lead the institution’s critical airway response team and play a central role in guiding perioperative management. In collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, our faculty enhance every phase of the surgical journey, from preoperative optimization to postoperative recovery.

Innovation is integral to our mission. We leverage health informatics and advanced technologies to drive continuous quality improvement and elevate patient outcomes. Our faculty bring diverse experience from both academic and private practice settings, with many holding advanced degrees in law, public health, or business—broadening our approach to care and leadership.

Education is a cornerstone of our department. We provide rigorous clinical and didactic training for residents and medical students, preparing them for the demands of modern, team-based healthcare. Through immersive experiences in operating rooms, ICUs, and consult services, our trainees develop a strong foundation in coordinated, longitudinal care. Our graduates consistently match into top-tier fellowship programs and leadership roles, reflecting the strength of our training and mentorship.

At our core, we are committed to patient-centered care, provider wellness, and a culture of inclusion. We believe that supporting the well-being of our faculty, trainees, and staff is essential to sustaining excellence in care and education. We strive to create an environment where every individual is valued, empowered, and equipped to thrive—both professionally and personally.

Together, we are more than a department—we are the Temple Team: united in purpose, driven by compassion, and committed to shaping the future of anesthesiology.
