Fizzbang
Fizzbangs are a Splatfest-exclusive mechanic and non-standard weapon in Splatoon 3, introduced in Fresh Season 2024, that debuted in the Drums vs. Guitar vs. Keyboard and Lightly Salted vs. Consommé vs. Salted Seaweed Splatfests. They are small bombs that can be thrown to produce explosions resembling fireworks.
Appearance
Fizzbangs appear to be modeled after paper lanterns associated with various east Asian festivals, similar to how Fizzbangs are also used during Splatfest events incorporating many traits of these real-life festivals. Their manner of use is akin to firework rockets, similarly a festival mainstay. They are affixed with a small white paper tag with calligraphy in dark ink, lashed to the fused nozzle with a length of light brown twine. They are colored in the user's ink color, and are translucent, glowing slightly with an inner light.
When thrown, Fizzbangs land on the ground and invert, with their fused end opening into a nozzle that spews a spiral of ink propelling them into the air, at which point they glow more brightly and swell before exploding into a burst of light and ink.
Details
Fizzbangs follow the player, similar to the clams in Clam Blitz, and can be thrown using or
without consuming ink. Upon landing on the ground, they fly upwards a short distance and explode, dealing 30 damage to opponents within a 5.2 unit radius.
Fizzbangs can be obtained in the following ways:
- When the match starts or whenever a minute elapses in the current match (at 3:00, 2:00, and 1:00), all players get one Fizzbang.
- Whenever a player respawns or splats an opponent, they get an amount of Fizzbangs depending on the remaining time of the current match: one during the first minute of the match, two during the second minute, and three in the final minute.
Each player may only hold up to seven Fizzbangs at a time.
After each minute passes, an on-screen text "We can hold more Fizzbangs!" appears. This is a mistranslation of the original Japanese line "ハナビダマ入手数アップ!"; only the number of Fizzbangs obtained from each respawn or splat increases, not the maximum capacity.

Trivia
- The Fresh Season 2024 trailer and promotional video feature Inklings and Octolings wearing varied clothing while using Fizzbangs, even though they would normally have to wear Splatfest Tees during an actual Splatfest. This was likely to conceal the upcoming Splatfest themes, Lightly Salted vs. Consommé vs. Salted Seaweed and Drums vs. Guitar vs. Keyboard.
Etymology
"Fizzbang" is simply "fizz" joined with "bang", referring to the ink-filled and exploding nature of Fizzbangs and the accompanying sounds of each trait upon use, respectively.
