Lan's Home[edit | edit source]

Grab Lan's PET.

The game will start with Lan waking up from sleep after being warned he'll be late for school. You'll need to pick up the PET in the right corner by pressing A button. Afterward, you'll get two new emails:

NetNews - WWW Crime!
WWW crime on the rise! WWW's plan to control the net might be starting!
Dad - Sorry!
Sorry I couldn't get off work Sunday. I'll be home soon. Here's a present for you. use it well.

Open dad's email for a CrossGun C chip. There's nothing more you can do here so go downstairs. Lan's Mom has prepared breakfast for him on the table. Check the plate on the table for a Recov10 A chip. You'll find Mayl waiting outside and automatically walk with her to school. She'll mention that people's ovens have been catching on fire and wonders if it's a WWW virus.

School[edit | edit source]

Speak to Dex, the kid with a green shirt, in the left corner. He'll challenge you to a NetBattle, but the school bell will ring. Class will start and Ms. Mari will give a lesson on virus busting using the familiar looking Mettools , based off of Mettaurs from the classic Mega Man games. Jack into Lan's PET by pressing R button.

Select the Cannon chips.

For the first lesson, you'll fight against two Mettools. Ms. Mari will explain how to send chip data and what the various UI elements mean. You have a choice of 5 chips:

Cannon A Minibom L Cannon A Shotgun N CrossGun J

If you select a Cannon chip, you can select the other one as well. Ms. Mari will then explain battling and additional UI. Defeat the two viruses.

The next lesson will have three Mettools. Ms. Mari will explain about support chips. Select Steal and then WideSwrd in that order. Steal will turn the closest enemy column area into yours and WideSwrd attacks the column in front of MegaMan. Use these two chips to defeat the front two viruses, then weaken the last one with your buster and finish it off with a battlechip once the custom bar fills.

The last lesson will also have three Mettools. Ms. Mari will explain chip adding. Select the ADD button and battle for one turn. When you return to the chip selection menu you'll get five extra chips to choose from. Defeat the three viruses. Once they are defeated class will be over. You can challenge Dex and his GutsMan if you want. He's easy to beat but you won't get any reward this time around. Leave the school and you'll get two new emails.

Doghouse Comp

After school you can have MegaMan jack in to the dog house next to Lan's house. There is a mystery data here with a Shotgun K chip.

It's a good idea to grind here for a bit, the Soniwave chip dropped by the red Mettool2 is especially useful early on, so try and get as many as you can. The first default chips you should get rid of are the Recov10 chips and the X-panel1s.

Dad - PowerUp!
Lan, this is Dad. I've made a PowerUp program for MegaMan! It's a little big to send by mail... But don't worry, I'll bring it home soon.
...You and MegaMan make a great team! Keep it up! -Dad
PS: Don't forget that whenever you're in a pinch, you can Press PET's L button to talk to MegaMan.
Ms.Mari - Class notes
I forgot to mention something in class today: Chips don't run out when you use them, so use what you need. Also, press PET's R button to call your NetNavi in the net. This useful trick is called "jacking out". Sorry for forgetting and see you in class tomorrow! -Mari
Lan's PC Comp
Viruses

When you return to Lan's home, you will find a man from NetSafety is checking the home control panel. Go upstairs to Lan's room and jack into the computer. There's isn't much to do in Lan's PC Comp so go through the portal to Internet 1.

Internet 1[edit | edit source]

Internet 1

Random Mystery Data
MetGuard A, X-Panel1 S, Recov10 G, Shotgun K, 100z, 200z, 500z, 1000z

Move forward and you will see Glyde, Yai's Navi. He tells you that one of Yai's programs is lost and gives you @Yai, which allows you to access Yai's portriat in the west of this map.

Take the more northern path. Along the way you'll find several mystery data which you can pick up for random goodies. Unlike later games in the series, the color of the mystery data doesn't mean anything.

You can't open the glowing door with a skull, so just leave it alone for now. If you keep going left you'll eventually run into a glowing circle with the words ACCESS on it, which is Yai's Portrait. Keep this in mind since you'll have to come here very soon.

Follow the fragmented bridge and you'll find a net merchant along the way. He sells:

Talk to Glyde.
Item Stock Price
HPmemory 5
  1. 500z
  2. 1000z
  3. 2000z
  4. 3000z
  5. 5000z
PowerUP 2
  1. 2000z
  2. 5000z
WideSwrd K 3 1000z
Spreader I 3 1000z
Hammer A 3 2000z
Recov50 C 3 2000z
Cannon C 3 3000z

The battlechips will restock if you jack out, but aren't worth bothering with since you can find them for free not too far into the future. HPmemory and PowerUP won't restock, but they are permanent upgrades to MegaMan. You should get the PowerUP first and spend it on attack in the MegaMan menu since it effectively upgrades the other choices too. The charge won't be necessary until later, so you can put it off until you've put several points or maxed out attack. You do need at least one PowerUP applied to actually charge so don't forget about it entirely. Whether you keep upgrading Charge or Rapid first will depend on your play style. Don't worry if you can't afford anything yet, you can always come back later when you have more zennies.

The lost program Glyde wanted you to look for!

Continue past the merchant and talk to the lost program here. The path up ahead leads to Dex's PC Comp and Internet 2, both of with are currently blocked off, so head back to Yai's portrait.

Talk to Glyde to tell him where the lost program is and he'll give you a Spreader I chip as a reward.

You can explore the rest of the area picking up the mystery data, but don't bother following the path all the way since it leads to a dead end. Mystery data in homepages are special, you can only pick them up if you don't have the chip it contains. Otherwise, if you already have the chip it will say MegaMan could not decode the data.

Get a few Dash chips if you want then jack out.
