138.0 stopped retrieving emails from mail server
I installed Thunderbird 138.0 a couple of months ago and was really pleased with its reliability and simplicity. About a month ago, it stopped retrieving emails from our local ISP. After a few very frustrating days of trying to fix the problem myself, I contacted our ISP. They told me that everything on their end was fine, but that I should probably change my password, just in case. I did that and Thunderbird started to work again as usual. About a week later it stopped again and nothing I try fixes it. I can't keep going to my ISP to change my password. The same thing is happening to Thunderbird on my Android phone, except every once in a while, it downloads 20 or so emails, then days of nothing. Its intensely frustrating! Your insight and help would really be appreciated. Thanks, Audrey

I forgot to mention that the email account is POP3, incoming mail is on port 110, and outgoing mail is on port 587. Audrey
It would be helpful to know what server settings you are using. In Thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting Information scroll down to 'Mail and News Accounts' section Post an image showing this area OR copy all the data and paste into this forum question.
I have come across people who use POP and Gmail who may experience an issue with getting dowloads. If there are too many emails left on the gmail server and you are using POP then gmail deliberately become a pain. Basically, gmail decides to limit downloads in the hope you go back to using the webmail account or swap to using imap. The simple solution is to access the gmail webmail account via a browser and delete a load of old emails.
Pop accounts cannot and do not synchronise with any server folder. So it's impossible for a Pop account to put any deleted mail into the gmail server Trash folder. With gmail accounts only emails that get put into the gmail server Trash folder can be deleted. They may have had a label deleted and therefore are archived in the 'All Mail' folder which is where gmail store all incoming and outgoing and archived emails.
However, you are using port 110 which is not exactly a secure option and not the correct settings for gmail, so I'm not sure what server you are talking about.
