Beep. Beep. Beep... That's the sound of over £1.4 million raised by Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation for CALM. That's an incredible amount: enough to answer over 115,000 potentially life-saving calls on our helpline. And that's not to mention the 5,000,000 conversations about suicide prevention they've helped start. Or the 1,641,594 Pennies transactions. Or the 100s of fundraising events. It's been a conveyor belt of one amazing act after another. A huge thank you to everyone at Iceland Foods & the food WAREHOUSE for creating one life-saving partnership. #charity #fundraising #partnership

Suicide isn’t an individual issue - it’s a cultural one. Our CEO Simon Gunning sat down with Harry Corin to talk stigma, survival, and why saying “suicide” out loud saves lives. It’s honest, it’s needed, and it’s the conversation we should all be having. 📺 Watch the full Question The Default Podcast episode at the link in the comments. #podcast #charity #MentalHealth

This week we welcome a guest on Question The Default Podcast who holds a very special place in my life – Simon Gunning, CEO of CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably). CALM has shaped my personal story more than almost anything else. I’ve spoken before about the years I spent running from my own mental health after losing my dad to suicide. What I’ve shared less is just how close I came to repeating that same story – the period of my life where suicidal thoughts became a daily reality for a period of my life when I technically, and materialistically had so much. The turning point came in 2018, when CALM launched Project 84 – 84 life-sized sculptures placed on the edge of the ITV Tower, representing real men who had died by suicide. I remember looking out of the office window in London and seeing them standing on the roof. I thought they were real people. It stopped me in my tracks. Grateful to the incredible efforts of those involved adam&eveDDB - Will Grundy - Harry's That moment changed everything for me. It pushed me to finally confront what I’d been avoiding. It led me to CALM. It led me to meeting Simon Gunning and the CALM team. It led me to becoming an ambassador, and ultimately, to dedicating my life’s work to suicide prevention. Their campaigns – from Project 84 to The Last Photo – have shifted culture, challenged stigma, and opened doors for conversations that would otherwise never happen. It’s not an exaggeration to say that their work likely saved mine. So having Simon on the podcast this week is incredibly meaningful. Not just as the CEO of a charity I care deeply about, but as a genuine pioneer in creating a movement against suicide – and someone I’m lucky to call a friend. I’m proud of this one. I’m proud to support CALM. 🎧 New episode is out today - Wednesday 10th December: https://lnkd.in/eXR4TccA 💛 In support of Campaign Against Living Miserably #QuestionTheDefault #SimonGunning #MentalHealth #CampaignAgainstLivingMiserably

⚡️Out now⚡️ Shirley Ballas joins me for an incredibly raw, honest, and important conversation about suicide loss. Shirley is a fellow Campaign Against Living Miserably ambassador who has used her voice and platform with remarkable courage to break stigma around mental health and suicide. When I first started Question The Default, she was one of the first people I hoped to bring on. I feel genuinely honoured to be sharing this episode today. Shirley has spoken openly about losing her brother David to suicide, and in this conversation, we talk about the deep impact of that loss. And for the first time, Shirley reads aloud the letter she has written to David. It’s a moment that captures love, pain and the weight of everything left unsaid. The letter was inspired by a campaign from Suicide&Co (Amelia Wrighton and Emma Morrisroe), where I wrote a letter to my dad and felt, for the first time in years, able to say the things I’d been carrying. This episode reflects the conversations we need more of – the ones that challenge stigma, deepen understanding, and remind people they are not alone in what they carry. Trigger warning: Grossly insensitive advertising Suicide isn't a punchline. When suicide is the leading cause of death for 15-39 year olds in the UK, using a national emergency as a shock tactic to sell beer leaves a bitter taste in our mouths. If suicide is on a billboard, let's make sure it's about helping people get the vital support they need, reducing the stigma and helping people find hope when things get tough. If you need us, our suicide prevention helpline is here for you, 365 days a year, 5pm-midnight. And if you'd like to donate the cost of *this* pint (£7.10...) to help fund our life-saving services instead, head to our website 🤝

This week, I feel incredibly privileged to announce a very special guest on Question The Default Podcast – Shirley Ballas. This isn’t just one of the most powerful conversations we’ve had on the podcast. It’s one of the most memorable conversations of my life. I’ve admired Shirley for a long time, especially through her work as a fellow Ambassador for CALM after losing her brother David to suicide. Her honesty and her willingness to speak openly about grief and mental health has undoubtedly saved lives. It’s easy to make assumptions about people we see on TV. But Shirley’s story is one marked by profound loss, deep love, and some extraordinarily difficult experiences – including a seven-year stalking ordeal and her own suicidal thoughts. This episode is about honesty, stigma, grief, strength – and why these conversations matter if we want to save more lives. It’s one I’ll never forget. Thank you for the support with the podcast so far. If there’s any conversation I want people to hear, it’s this one. I’d love for you to listen when we launch on Wednesday and to share it with someone who might need it. Launching Wednesday 3 December. 🎧 https://lnkd.in/eXR4TccA 💛 In support of Campaign Against Living Miserably #QuestionTheDefault #ShirleyBallas #MentalHealth #Stalking
