Our Faith in Futures partner Restoring Hardknott Forest needs your support! 🌲🗳️ Leeds researchers are helping to restore plant and animal life to landscapes in the UK. The valleys of Miterdale and Hardknott Forest are set in some of the most stunning scenery in the western Lake District, but historic land use and the spread of invasive species have led to severe ecological degradation. As part of the Alliance for Northern Nature project, Leeds researchers are working alongside partners to enable the return of native trees, wildflowers and wildlife. Showing how nature restoration can help increase resilience to the impacts of climate change for generations to come – and with school visits, volunteer events, and employment opportunities, the projects are transformative not just for nature, but the local communities, too. Leeds has reached the final shortlist to receive funding from the EOCA European Outdoor Conservation Association, and the winner will be selected by a public vote. GREAT NORTHERN DAY 2025 We believe the North deserves a day of its own. On Sunday 24th August, Great Northern Day will be launched, a national celebration of the people, places, creativity and character that make the North so special. We’re marking the occasion with a free-to-attend launch party at Bradford’s Darley Street Market, alongside iconic Northern brands including Seabrook Crisps, Bundobust, Great North Pie Co., MyLahore Restaurants, Hip Pop and more. Here’s what to expect on the day: 🥧 Exclusive Great Northern Day pie collaborations 🍺 Faith (lots of it!), alcohol-free options and Northern snacks 🎵 All-day live music: brass bands, DJs, Northern Soul and Bhangra 🎨 Northern creative market and family workshops 👕 Northern-inspired clothing and merchandise We’ll also be launching a year-long project to create a flag of the North, to be revealed at Great Northern Day 2026. 📍 Darley Street Market, Bradford ⏰ 11am-7pm 🎟️ Free entry, family friendly This is the start of what we hope will become an annual cultural celebration of the North. Our First Impact Report 🌍 It’s a privilege to be able to make something that’s often at the centre of celebrations, key moments within communities. Something that can be truly delightful (whilst accepting the occasional miss!) - we’re on a mission to make sure it always is. However, we also hope that we have so much more to offer than ‘just beer’. We’re committed to trying to do the right thing, for our people, our community, and the planet We have 3 main commitments to help us address these priorities: 🌱 To become carbon-zero in direct emissions by 2030. 🏠 To be the best real living wage employer we can be. 💛 To support community projects in the north with a total of £150,000 in donations via the Faith in Futures foundation by the end of 2025. Setting these goals and getting to work addressing them has been a long process that has involved every single Monk, not just the ones in this photo. So a huge thank you to them! 👏 In an effort to share our progress with the wider Northern Monk community, we’re proud to present our Impact Report. Welcome to the team Ryan McCarry 🤝 We’re delighted to welcome Ryan to Northern Monk as a Non-Executive Director.   Ryan first got involved as an investor during our most recent crowdfund, and he’s now supporting us more closely as an advisor on key commercial projects, helping to shape the next stage of our growth while representing the voice of our 4,000-strong community of crowdfund investors. He brings valuable experience from across the drinks industry, including his work with our friends at leading alcohol-free beer brand, Mash Gang, where he supported major milestones such as launching in the US, relocating UK production to Leeds, improving quality, scaling capacity, and building the brand for rapid growth. We’re excited to have Ryan involved and look forward to the journey ahead 🚀
