The only thing they need to do is make sure it works seamlessly with the console. Same library, don't require devs to make handheld only games. Just have cloud saves so you can go from handheld->console with your digital games. If they get that right, with a 4-5 hour battery life, good ergonomics (just split a DS5 and put it on the sides) it'll sell well.
That's why they ended up being failures. Like loved by devoted portable fans, but unable to catch on with the mainstream success the way home consoles do. And it just limits everything. I mean if Lumines and Jeanne d'Arc and Uncharted Golden Whatever had been on PS3/4 but cross-saved with the PSP instead of locked to one thing, your libraries could be carried forward forever. It adds convenience, playing when and how you like. Developers don't need to waste resources developing for some niche product that probably would be (and did end up) underperforming sales-wise.I actually liked what they did with the psp and ps vita. It was its own seperate console and had its own games.
This is the best idea. Having it's own games will only lead to it's destruction in a few years. The PSP and the Vita failed because of this reason. Sony only supported them with first party games for less than a handful of years. The only thing they need to do is make sure it works seamlessly with the console.
