About us

Founded in 1908, AnMed is an independent, not-for-profit health system serving Upstate South Carolina and northeast Georgia. It is licensed for 648 beds and anchored by AnMed Medical Center, a 495-bed acute-care hospital that’s earned the prestigious Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center since 2012. Also included are a heart and vascular center, a comprehensive cancer center, a maternity center, a behavioral health hospital, a rehabilitation hospital, and AnMed Integrated Therapy and AnMed Urgent Care locations. The AnMed Piedmont campus and its freestanding emergency department opened in 2025, and a new campus serving Clemson and Central is under construction and scheduled to open in 2027. Nearly 60 physician practices are also among service sites spread throughout the region. The system has 742 physicians on medical staff and more than 4,000 employees. Guided by core values of compassion, innovation, integrity, accountability and collaboration, AnMed was named one of the nation’s “Great Community Hospitals” by Becker’s Hospital Review. It’s also been named among the nation’s 165 top places to work in health care. It is one of three systems in the nation to earn the 2024 Carolyn Boone Lewis Equity of Care Award from the American Hospital Association. Learn more at AnMed.org. Dr. Angelica Thapa was recently with a patient who was transitioning to comfort care. The patient was upset with her appearance, so Dr. Thapa brushed her hair and pulled it back to provide a measure of contentment. In another case, a very difficult family situation in the ICU plagued a patient’s care. Dr. Thapa adeptly handled the trying circumstances. She oversaw a transfer for the patient and professionally tended to a challenging family member. She’s known and appreciated for treating patients, nurses and others with respect, compassion and kindness. She’s our #PhysicianOfTheQuarter. #BetterStartsHere

A patient recently contacted Hannah, who works in Home Health, and indicated that he’d taken two bottles of medication in an attempt to harm himself. Hannah directed him to immediately call 911, but he refused. He even refused to tell her where he was so she could send help. So Hannah reached out to his girlfriend, who managed to get him to the hospital. Hannah’s quick intervention helped save the man’s life. She’s been named one of our #StarsOfTheMonth alongside Lonna of Business Services, and Mandy, Christy and Marquitia of Home Health. Lonna recently discovered a cherished wedding ring had been left at our Medical Center. Letters were sent to the patient’s home, but it turned out the patient had been moved to a facility, so Lonna contacted the facility to have the ring delivered there. The patient was deeply appreciative because their spouse had died and they thought the ring was lost forever. Mandy received a call recently notifying her that a patient had not eaten in a week. The patient did not have any food in her house and was struggling to shop or prepare meals. The patient’s spouse had been her primary caregiver, and he’d recently died. So Mandy, Marquitia and Christy raised money and purchased groceries. They bought microwaveable meals and things easily prepared and eaten. They delivered $150 worth of groceries after work hours, much to the delight and appreciation of the patient. #BetterStartsHere

Major progress has been made over the past month at the AnMed Central Clemson site, located near the intersection of Highway 123 and 18 Mile Road. Structural steel is now being erected, and our team is preparing to begin pouring floors on Levels 1 and 2. We're also wrapping up construction of the final concrete retaining wall on the site. In the foreground are members of our onsite team: Robert, Jill, Riley, and Todd, who continue to help drive this project forward. When completed in 2027, AnMed Central Clemson will bring the area's only 24/7 emergency department, along with primary care and specialty physician offices, physical therapy services, and comprehensive laboratory and imaging capabilities, expanding access to high-quality healthcare for the surrounding community.
