Rosberg Ventures has shifted up another gear: we've launched our early growth-stage direct investment strategy - investing in the generational companies of our time. Our latest deal is ClickHouse, a global leader in real-time data analytics and management. They already serve several of the Mag7, have more than quadrupled ARR to the 100s of millions, and are in the 2025 Forbes Cloud 100. ClickHouse is at the core of AI infrastructure. With generative AI moving to large-scale deployment, companies need to process and query massive datasets in real time. That's the foundation that makes intelligent systems actually usable (think super fast and scalable.) For example, Deutsche Bank has publicly shown a regulated ClickHouse-based data warehouse for trade and market data, giving internal teams fast access to very large datasets for analytics and model development, which is a game-changer! At Netflix , scale drives everything. Their logging system ingests 5 PB of data a day, averaging 10M+ events per second (with peaks of 12M+) across 40,000+ microservices. Logs are searchable within seconds and power hundreds of queries per second as engineers keep the platform running for 300M+ subscribers. But getting there wasn’t automatic. As engineer Daniel Muino explained at a recent ClickHouse meetup, building a system to handle that scale and interactivity meant working through a few tough bottlenecks. 🔎 Optimization 1: Fingerprinting Regex and ML were too slow. Rebuilding with JFlex cut latency from 216 μs to 23 μs and boosted throughput nearly 10x. ⚡ Optimization 2: Serialization JDBC inserts added overhead. By reverse-engineering the Go client, they built a native protocol encoder for lower CPU, better memory use, and faster writes. 🗂️ Optimization 3: Queries Tags stored as maps meant costly linear scans. Sharding them into 31 smaller ones dropped query times from 3s to under 700ms. With some creative engineering, Daniel and the team turned bottlenecks into strengths, and cemented Netflix’s logging system as one of the largest and fastest ClickHouse deployments anywhere.
