A look back at a historic Kiewit build. Completed in 1953, the Garrison Dam was the world’s largest rolled-fill earth embankment dam at the time. Kiewit crews moved more than 75 million cubic yards of dirt to deliver the project in North Dakota. The photos feature members of the project team, views of the work and President Eisenhower posing with the project manager during a site ceremony.

We’re proud to have partnered with Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium on the new Bill and Berniece Grewcock Animal Hospital. The 32,000-square-foot facility replaces the zoo’s 30-year-old hospital and was designed to support the day-to-day and critical care needs of more than 39,000 animals. The space includes an ICU, treatment rooms, surgical and dental suites, a clinical pathology lab, a fully equipped pharmacy and an animal diet kitchen. One standout feature is the zoo’s first CT scanner and endoscopy unit, expanding on-site diagnostic and treatment capabilities. The hospital also includes specialized environments like cold rooms with built-in water elements for penguins, puffins and other cold-adapted species, along with graded, floodable flooring for animals such as otters and ducks, plus aquatic habitats for fish and invertebrates. Here’s a look at the new hospital we were proud to help deliver alongside the Omaha Zoo.

    • A modern veterinary surgical room with large glass windows shows several veterinary staff attending to an animal on an operating table. Multiple monitors and advanced medical equipment are present, and a video screen on the wall displays an image of a leopard.
    • The image shows the exterior of the Grewcock Animal Hospital, a modern building surrounded by trees and a grassy area. The sky is partly cloudy.
    • A group of veterinary staff in a medical facility are positioning a large animal on a CT scanner. The team is wearing uniforms and gloves, and the setting appears organized and professional.
    • A modern hallway features a wall with a geometric art installation of hexagons containing animal silhouettes. An elevator with a metallic finish is visible on the left, and the ceiling has wood paneling. Sunlight casts intricate patterns on the carpeted floor.

4,000,000 linear feet – that’s about how much cable will help support the new Francis Scott Key Bridge rebuild. To put that into perspective, that’s enough cable to stretch nearly the entire distance from Maryland to our headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. Our engineering and construction teams are proud to support Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) and help rebuild this vital connection for the region, using an innovative cable-stayed bridge design to enhance durability, safety and long-term resilience on the Patapsco River. #KeyBridgeRebuild

You could call our Heavy Lifting Device (HLD) one of the strongest pieces of equipment we own. With a lift capacity of 12,500 tons at a 240-foot radius and a hook height of more than 400 feet, it’s the largest onshore lifter in North America. At 500 feet tall, the HLD towers over Corpus Christi Bay in Texas and has lifted more than 557 million pounds since its first use in 2004.

The longest night of 2025 brought one incredible view. Northern Lights above our equipment at the Dehk'è Frank Channel Bridge Project in the Northwest Territories, Canada. Grateful for the teams who show up, no matter how remote the location, to keep building the infrastructure communities rely on.

Field. Office. Team meetings. Site walks. For Rebeca Gonzalez, assistant project engineer on the Cumberland Combined Cycle Project, no two days look the same — each one brings a new chance to learn, lead and make an impact. And just like Rebeca’s, every career at Kiewit is built on teamwork, hands-on experience and curiosity. If you’re ready to take on new challenges, explore careers at Kiewit below.

The dam raise at the Gross Reservoir Expansion Project is now 95% complete, raising the structure 109 feet above its original height. Placement of roller-compacted concrete paused during the winter months due to below-freezing temperatures, but construction will resume this spring to complete the remaining 22 feet. Once finished, the expanded dam will nearly triple the reservoir’s water storage capacity. During the winter shutdown, crews are focusing on work that can continue safely, including mechanical and pipe installation inside the dam and construction of the stilling basin at its base. When complete, the dam will stand 471 feet tall, 131 feet higher than the original structure, with a crest stretching 2,040 feet from one side to the other.
