Updates

  • It's been one month since Sun Day, when thousands of people turned out around the globe in support of solar energy and climate action. The ReVision community attended solar-powered rallies, concerts, and gatherings in Waterville, Farmington, Portland, Milton, Concord, and the Upper Valley. Thanks to Green Wave Electric Vehicles, League of Conservation Voters, Third Act for their continued partnerships. We're already planning more ways to keep the momentum going, so stay tuned! Here's ReVision's co-founder Phil Coupe's thoughts on Sun Day's success: "Now that solar electricity has become the cheapest energy in history, and modern efficient technology like heat pumps, electric vehicles, and battery storage have matured into high-performing systems, we are proving that 160-year-old internal combustion of fossil fuels can be replaced with options that are cheaper, cleaner and better. As part of Bill McKibben's global Sun Day of action to amplify the need for a clean energy transition, we put on a solar-powered concert in New Hampshire, using a 100% electric Ford Lightning truck charged up with sunshine to power the Mallett Brothers Band's electrifying set at 3S Artspace in Portsmouth! The Lightning was able to be driven to the concert from Portland, Maine, used for the 2-hour concert, and then still had enough battery power for the drive back to Portland--all while towing the 100% electric Sea Lightning, a 20-foot center console boat that never needs a drop of gas and never emits any pollution. A couple days after the concert, we brought the Lightning truck, Sea Lightning boat and a bunch of good vibes to another Sun Day event in Portland, ME where we again powered the music and entertainment for an entire afternoon with plenty of juice leftover for the drive home."

I get to work with a lot of really amazing humans at ReVision Energy. Like James Hasselbeck, our Chief Technology Officer, who has been building #cleanenergy in New England for two decades. James is that rare construction guy who not only understands the tech inside and out and can lead crews through the toughest jobs in the field, but also has the gift of inspiring audiences young and old to help build our just and equitable electric future. His impact has been deeply felt by our 426 employee-owners and across the #solar industry, where he is a nationally-recognized leader in O&M and workforce development as the driving force behind our first-of-its-kind electrical apprenticeship program. James leads with grit and grace, and tons of good humor! I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of the NH Business Excellence award, presented by NH Business Review last night. Rock on JH!

US electricity demand is projected to nearly double by 2050, mainly thanks to data centers (AI), transportation (EVs), and industrial electrification. To meet that demand while keeping prices affordable, we need to deploy gigawatts of fast and inexpensive energy (solar, wind) and make that supply 'firm' with short- and long-duration storage (esp. virtual power plants). The technology is already being deployed in many parts of the world. Now we just need state and federal policymakers to remove the regulatory barriers and wasteful subsidies that are holding us back. I was grateful to discuss these and other #cleanenergy innovations last week at the NH Tech Alliance Innovation Summit, home to many of our state's most forward-thinking entrepreneurs. Spreading EV's across New England with data and design | V2L Enthusiast

Solar makes more sense in the northeast United States because: 💸 electricity rates are higher here than pretty much anywhere else 📈 electricity rates are climbing faster here than pretty much anywhere else Solar lets you make your own energy, controlling the costs and insulating you from the volatility of utility prices. I've had my solar for only 27 months and in that time, it's offset rates as low as $0.194/kWh and as high as $0.257/kWh. That's 32% difference in just over 2 years! As utility prices go up, solar gets MORE valuable. And AI data centers will likely accelerate utility increases for everybody. Imagine how much more valuable solar will be in 5 to 10 years as the prices of electricity skyrocket. (Even at current rates, I'm already expecting the solar pays for itself in 6-7 years. It could be much quicker if utility rates keep rising.) If you're in Massachusetts, Maine, or New Hampshire (#3, #8, and #9 for highest utility costs) check out solar with ReVision Energy. Go to our website at ReVisionEnergy.com. After you're done being distracted by the happy baby, click the big orange button to get started. Even if you can't put panels on your own property, we offer community solar where you OWN the panels and get the full benefit. It's a full 100% savings, not just 15% like other subscription model solar. I'm part of a member-owned community solar project and it's great! The picture is me visiting my community solar project with some of my fellow owners. (I own .687% of the project and get .687% of all energy produced.)

Advancing community solar and trying to make good things happen across northern New England

Curious what the clean energy economy looks like in action? Today I visited an under-construction ReVision Energy community solar project being developed in Keene, NH. American-made steel racking is in place. 528 American-assembled solar panels are mounted. Local electricians with Yates Electric were pulling wire. This 333kW array will generate 380,000 kilowatt hours of local clean energy annually. The project will serve Cedarcrest Center for Children with Disabilities, providing this community-benefitting organization nearly $2 million in energy savings over 20 years while offsetting 376,000 pounds of CO2 emissions annually.

  • Our teams have been installing FranklinWH Energy Storage Inc. batteries throughout New England - and we're loving them. Check out the report from our electrician Ethan:

Installation Crew Lead and Licensed Electrician at Revision Energy

I completed a third FranklinWH battery installation in Hallowell today, and this is the happiest I've been so far with the equipment layout. On the second project two weeks ago, we had a really stiff batch of 4/0 aluminum SER that wouldn't cooperate and lay out exactly the way we wanted it. These customers in Hallowell had 5kw of PV already on site, and all of the new components fell into place nicely around the inverter. Victorian homes have a way of throwing curve balls at contractors (I love them anyway) and this one did not disappoint with a very crowded 100 amp sub panel that needed the grounds and neutrals separated. I am really impressed with the quality and features of these Franklin systems. There are bolt-in modular components that allow you to integrate a generator to charge the battery or tap into your EV for additional capacity above the 10kw of a single unit. Through the smart load shedding feature, the customer can adjust and set a heavy loads panel to turn on or off based on the state of charge. Another fun feature are the LED strip lights (favorite sports team or festive holiday colors, anyone?) on the outside of the battery, which also indicates the state of charge. From an electrician's perspective, there are acres of room to work inside the aGate and Franklin thinks of nearly everything you could need or want for the installation and includes it, including a 10mm wrench and labels and stickers galore. A rugged steel case, which helps the unit tip the scales at about 357 pounds, keeps the internal components well protected. ReVision Energy
