Five leadership shifts we’ll see this year

Five leadership shifts we’ll see this year

This is a defining moment for leaders and here’s what I anticipate in 2025…

Moving beyond transactional leadership

In today’s landscape, transactional leadership – where success is measured by rigid structures and compliance – is simply not enough. While it served us well during the pandemic, the complexities we face now require a more dynamic approach. Leaders must empower their teams to explore new ideas and technologies, especially as we incorporate generative AI into our workflows. If we continue to cling to outdated metrics, we risk stifling creativity and innovation, which are vital for attracting and retaining top talent.

Embracing founder-mode leadership

Founder-mode leadership is becoming essential in navigating the uncertainties of the current business environment. This style is characterised by bold decision-making and a long-term vision. For instance, when faced with labour shortages, instead of viewing it as a setback, founder-mode leaders see an opportunity to invest in their teams through upskilling programs. This proactive approach not only addresses immediate challenges but also fosters a culture of innovation, aligning everyone around a shared vision for the future.

Adopting agile leadership practices

Agility is crucial in a world where change is the only constant. Agile leadership emphasises flexibility and collaboration, allowing leaders to adapt strategies based on real-time feedback. For example, when integrating new technologies, we can pilot these initiatives on a small scale first, gathering insights and adjusting our approach before a full rollout. This iterative process not only mitigates risks but also encourages a culture of experimentation, where employees feel free to propose and test new ideas without fear of failure.

Collaboration over command

Say goodbye to top-down leadership. Today’s effective leaders will act as catalysts, empowering self-managing teams to collaborate across traditional boundaries. By creating an environment of trust and transparency, they can break down silos and encourage a more interconnected way of working. This shift not only enhances creativity but also aligns efforts toward common goals, ultimately benefiting customers and stakeholders.

Creating value through co-creation

Finally, leadership in 2025 must focus on co-creation rather than mere competition. As the market evolves, we need to collaborate with various stakeholders – customers, suppliers, and even competitors – to create new value. This means reimagining our business models and industry ecosystems to meet the changing needs of our customers. By adopting a mindset of abundance, savvy CEOs can unlock opportunities that benefit everyone involved.

Fully agree, Naresh. With everything we see happening in the world, I would add respect, integrity, collaboration and togetherness as fundamental leadership principles. More than ever, we need to lead change, get things done and be people-centric!

Insightful Naresh Chainani , may be we could add >>> 1- The importance of brand strategy in value creation and growth. Corporate Brands, hence Brand Governance is a strategic imperative that will allow Leaders to extract superior value from their respective branded organizations... Indeed 2025 will be a challenging year on various planes. >>> 2- Geostrategic civilisational shifts have started since the past years, will pursue and see the bold emergence of a truly multi-polar world. Hence the importance of Global Geo-politics.
