Adequate energy intake is essential for an athlete’s health and performance. By considering fuel consumption, exercise, and body composition, an athlete’s energy availability can be assessed. Research shows that female athletes are particularly adverse to the effects of low energy availability compared to males. Recognizing and addressing low energy availability in female athletes is crucial for both performance and long-term health.
