Building at Scale: AI, Architecture, Infrastructure, Performance & Beyond at Wix Engineering In 2025, we shared real-world lessons from building and running one of the world's largest web platforms. Not theory. Not "content". But hands-on engineering challenges that emerge only at massive scale - where thousands of developers, hundreds of teams, and hundreds of millions of users meet production and AI reality. Here’s a snapshot of the topics we explored this year, with: 🔸 AI at Wix: Even-Haim Yaniv, Aviran Mordo 🪐, Asaf Yonay, Gefen Mittelman, Gilad Barkan, Eli Brosh 🔸 Building AI Systems: Yuval Nissan, Ran Geler, Olga Atzmon, Olha Shainoha, Idan Dagan, Dvir Cohen, Josef Goldstein, Omer Dodi 🔸 Architecture & Platform Engineering: Yoav Abrahami, Zachi Nachshon, Tomer Pilossof, Ethan Pogrebizsky, Itai Schuftan, Ran Yitzhaki, Natan Silnitsky, Yoav Tsook, Elena Kravchenko 🔸 Infrastructure, Data & Search at Scale: Yael Rafalovich, Anton Kolhun, Gregory Bondar, Valery Frolov, Almog Gelber, Dmytro Kostiuchenko, Ben Chen, Tomer Salton, Eli Ben-David, Gil Eckstein, Hadar Grossman, Or Ben Ari 🔸 Craft & Unexpected Lessons: Aviva Starovolsky-Peisach, Evelyn Moadi, Asaf Korem, Adam Friedmann, Omer D., Simonas V. How do you build full-text search over encrypted PII without breaking privacy or search quality? At Wix, we faced a real limitation: Vespa doesn’t support search over encrypted data, yet PII must stay encrypted at all times. Instead of compromising, we built a practical solution: ✅ Exact match on deterministically encrypted data ✅ Prefix search with proper ranking ✅ N-gram search for typo tolerance ✅ All handled via a smart middle-tier - no changes to Vespa internals Real privacy. Real production scale. A great deep dive by Anton Kolhun & Gregory Bondar https://lnkd.in/eBgaA-Jz

Today we hosted the first of our two annual FED Guild Company Highlights events. 🔶 The goal? To get a focused snapshot of what teams have been building this past year - from customer-facing capabilities, through in-house AI tools, to platform solutions that enable other teams across the organization. 🔶 The format? Each company had only five minutes on stage to share its standout achievements and challenges from the past year - from major product features to deep engineering work behind the scenes. Always inspiring to see the breadth of innovation, and how much we can learn from one another!

Respect Shmuel Mekonen! 🔥

Wix are showing some impressive gains finding the acceptable boundaries between generative AI and human oversight in CI/CD Pipelines. Thanks to Itai Schuftan for the kind words about my piece below for InfoQ:
Humbled and honored to be mentioned in InfoQ - “Wix Adds Chaos to CI/CD Pipelines with AI and Improves Reliability” I’m truly excited that a solution we developed is contributing to the industry in a meaningful way - and grateful for the opportunity to share it with a wider audience of engineers and tech leaders. Big thanks to Matt Saunders for featuring our work https://lnkd.in/dMA5pn-8

Microservices Reliability 📕 Playbook [Download] In 2008, Wix struggled with a slow, fragile monolith. Shipping took months and scale increased risk. Yoav Abrahami and Eugene Olshenbaum led the shift to reliability-first microservices, introducing the Split by SLO pattern - separating Public and Editor systems. That mindset still guides Wix today. In this playbook, Yoav shares: ✅ How to predict and design for reliability ✅ Key risks microservices reduce ✅ Proven patterns and real SLO lessons from Wix Working with microservices? “Just add more DevOps.” Well, that's usually the ❌ wrong answer. If after investing in CI/CD, automation, monitoring, and on-call - your teams are still fighting Kubernetes configs, pipelines, and rollout mechanics - you don't have a DevOps problem. You have a platform problem. DevOps builds speed. Platform Engineering builds the system that allows speed to scale safely. It's the difference between: "How do I deploy this?" and "Which golden path should I use?" At Wix, we learned that Platform Engineering isn't upgraded DevOps and isn't a tooling exercise. It’s a business capability - one that connects safety, velocity, and real business impact. Read Ben Chen's new article to learn how we approach Platform Engineering at Wix: Treating the platform as a product, designing for safe production change, and building abstractions that endure as the business scales. https://lnkd.in/eAMNs3NN
