Version differences

Fortnite Battle Royale

The popular free-to-play 100-player PvP mode of the game.
This mode was originally in paid Early Access for two weeks before it was released as a free-to-play mode on September 26, 2017.[12][13]

Fortnite Save The World / Standard Edition

The original mode of the game; a PvE co-op campaign that was released to Early Access on July 25, 2017 and remained as such up until June 30, 2020.[7] While Epic originally mentioned that the intention was to make the mode free-to-play when was released,[14] during the 2020 release announcement they stated that the mode would remain a premium experience rather than going free-to-play.[7] The mode transitioned to free-to-play on April 16, 2026.
The Standard Edition includes the PvE co-op campaign, 7 pinata packs, and 4 in-game icons.

Deluxe Edition

Includes everything the Standard Edition includes, along with the Starter Hero Pack and additional in-game items, consumables, and cosmetics; some of which are exclusive.

Fortnite Creative

A creative sandbox mode launched on December 6, 2018,[15] during the development of Creative mode, Epic Games focused on delivering it quickly rather than ensuring a flawless experience at launch.[16] A scoreboard was added during the 8.40 patch.[17]

Fortnite Experiences

In March 2023, Epic Games released the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), a standalone editor for Windows.[18] In October 2023, the main Fortnite client was restructured to integrate both official Epic modes and user-created creative modes, presented under the name Fortnite Experiences.[19]

Issues unresolved

Shader compilation stutter

Pre-download Streamed Assets are available to download from options, however the stutter will still persist through out the game.[37]
The game suffers from severe shader compilation related stutters during gameplay, this occurs whenever a new effect is displayed and thus whenever a new shader has to be compiled.[38][39]
