System Admin Responsibilities & Skills Responsibilities

Operations ownership of projects using Windows operating System and Windows application stacks (IIS, MS-SQL, ASP, DotNet, Java etc) Responsible for setup and uptime of large Windows deployments (100s of servers) Configure and optimize database servers, web servers, vps and cloud servers etc Incident analysis/RCAs/troubleshooting and identification of permanent resolutions Liaison with customer support teams and resolve customer issues. Recommend/implement automated processes for scaling operations Centralized management of applications & configuration using Active Directory. Plan & automate migrations. Plan and execute service/site maintenance schedules. Contribute to the operations handbook. Pro-actively monitor product/services/site performance, uptime, availability and analyze logs / metrics. Participate on on-call rotation for fixing service downtime incidents.

You are an expert/master of some of the below tools/skills

Windows: Good understanding of Windows 2000/2003/2008 Operating Systems, Active Directory Concepts & management, Sysinternal scripts, Analyzing Event logs etc. Fundamentals: Good DNS & Networking Fundamentals, TCP/UDP, IP Routing, HA & Load Balancing Concepts. Storage: RAID, DAS, SAN, NAS fundamentals & operational skills Application Protocols: Excellent understanding of SMTP,HTTP,FTP,IMAP,POP Applications: IIS, Tomcat, PHP etc. Databases: Excellent understanding of - SQL/RDBMS, MS-SQL. Tools/Utilities: Nagios, Cacti, GIT/SVN, DHCP, WDS, WMI, WSUS, MSI Packages, IPSec. Others: Regular expressions, Excellent troubleshooting skills. Good to have: o Scripting/Programming: Powershell/VB Script o Systems/Hardware: LOM/IPMI/IP KVMs, Dell Hardware.
