(The land that lies between the two holy rivers, the Krishna and The Tungabhadra, is the chosen land of God. The almighty with all his manifestations always protects the people living in this sacred land.) Gadwal, a small town on the banks of the river Krishna, is part of this sacred land. Gadwal is popularly known as VIDWAD GADWAL, as the rulers of Gadwal Samsthan had a great reputation for men of letters, poets and scholars of Sanskrit and Telugu from far and wide places including Tamilnadu regularly visited the Gadwal Samsthan in those days. Gadwal, well connected by rail and road on the Hyderabad-Bangalore route, is situated 200 kms away from Hyderabad enroute to Bangalore. Gadwal has a railway station and many trains in this route connect Gadwal to many important places across India including Delhi, Jaipur, Thirupathi, Bangalore, Mysore etc. It is 15 kms away from National Highway No.7 and is connected at Erravalli Chaurastha. It is surrounded by 4 important towns on 4 sides,

Mahaboobnagar on the North, Wanaparthy on the East, Kurnool on the South and Raichur of Karnataka on the West. Gadwal was in fact a part of Raichur district before the reorganization of the district of erstwhile Hyderabad state in 1956. Despite the commendable history and glorious tradition, the common people of this midland remained outside the domain of modern higher education till 1960. The renowned freedom fighters and educationist Sri. D. K. Satya Reddy and Sri. Paga Pulla Reddy rose to the occasion and with their pioneering and persistant efforts, the long cherished dreams of the people became reality. That was the humble beginning of our college in this remote part of Andhra Pradesh. Thus Maharani Adi Laxmi Devamma Arts & Science College, Gadwal, the first college in our district, was established in 1960 under private management with a great vision and mission to impart higher education to the economically backward region and to transform it into a knowledge society. The then prince, Raja Krishnaram Bhoopal, generously donated the entire

royal fort and also Rs. 25000 cash for the establishment of the college. Hence the college is named after erstwhile queen (Raja Krishnaram Bhoopals grandmother) of Gadwal Samsthan. The college was taken over by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in 1964. Later it has got permanent affiliation to Osmania University, Hyderabad and permanent recognition under section 2(f) and 12(b) of UGC act. The college switched over to 10+2+3 system of education and Telugu as medium of instruction in 1970, as per the policy of the state government. In 1996, the Government of Andhra Pradesh bifurcated the college into two separate colleges Government Junior College, Gadwal and M. A. L. D. Government Degree College, Gadwal. The college when started in 1960 had only 5 groups with only 300 students. In recent years the college has introduced restructured courses with new departments such as computers, microbiology as per the needs of changing times. At present the college has 10 groups with 1,806 students. Recently in 2008 the Government of Andhra Pradesh has started a new degree college for woman and temporarily running in the same premises. However,this did not effect our college either in admissions or in popularity. Even today this college is continuing its services for the students of entire midland that lies between the Rivers Krishna and Tungabhadra who have been aspiring for Higher Education. The motto of our college is Learning to Do, Learning to Be. The ultimate aim and essence of education is learning to do good for society and learning to be a good citizen. Ruskin rightly says: Education doesnt mean teaching people to know what they do not know; it means teaching them to behave as they do not behave. Our vision is to transform this remote region into a knowledge society and make it a centre of excellence in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The college offers 10 under-graduate programmes in arts, commerce and science. Permanent affiliation for B.A., B.Com., and B.Sc. courses was accorded by the Osmania University in the year 1990-91 vide O.U. Lr. No. 154911/H/502/62/Acad., Dated 15-04-1991. Due to establishment of new universities in the state the present first year batch students (2010-11) were affiliated to the Palamur University,

Mahaboobnagar. In the next two years of time the college would completely be affiliated to the Palamur University, Mahaboobnagar. The college has an open land of 5 acres and 1 gunta. The college has well equipped labs, computer lab, seminar hall, mana TV hall, NSS room, Games, Jim, Library, JKC, Girls waiting room, Museum(Zoology Department), mini Botanical Garden. The students make maximum utilization of all the facilities available in the college. The college also accommodates Dr. Ambedkar Open University Centre so as to enable the disadvantaged students to attend classes on Sundays also. The college has an efficient internal co-ordination mechanism helping the smooth conduct of academic and administrative matters. The college Planning and Development

Counsil (C.P.D.C.) plays a vital role in guiding the college towards right direction. The college has various committees that help smooth running of the college. The college has moulded the minds of innumerable young men and women over the years. It has produced a large number of academicians, administrators, doctors, scientists, politicians and experts in various fields. The JKC has become an important branch of learning in this college. It has been training the out-going students unleashing their potentials towards essential skills that would enhance their knowledge and secure a job in the present corporate world. Every year potential students are being selected in campus interviews organized by various multinational companies. Despite self commending of our college, we humbly submit that we know our limitations. Inspite of it, we have been expanding our services to the society year after year, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Our future plans include introduction of P.G. courses, starting a students hostel, setting up a multimedia language laboratory and full-fledged auditorium. Setting new standards, Scaling new heights of excellence, and Shaping the destinies of young men and women, the college has been marching forward.

2.1. Executive Summary of the IDP:
2.1.1. 2.1.2. VISION MISSION AND OBJECTIVES OF THE INSTITUTION:

VISION:
To transform this remote part of Andhra Pradesh into a knowledge society by making Higher Education accessible to every young man and Women of this region and inculcate creativity and innovative spirit and scientific Temper among the Youth and help them scale the heights of excellence in their lives and making village community acquainted with advanced knowledge on educative health and hygiene aspects.

To translate the vision of our institution into mission the college envisages the following action plan. Our Mission is . . . . . 1. To sustain the quality of higher education and there of enhancing the quality by undertaking specific academic and extension programs and study projects.

PROGRESS OF THE INSTITUTUON: The college has been progressing rapidly in the following components: 1. Students strength. 2. Increase in number of programs offered. 2.1.4. Academic Growth/ Achievements: 1. Conducted International Seminar in chemistry on 10-08-2012. 2. Results of the college increased by 10 %. 3. Conducted a free certificate course in English by the Department of English. 4. Conducted a free certificate course in Gender and Human Rights in collaboration with ASMITHA- A Resource centre for Women, Secunderabad.

2.1.5 PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED: 1. The college has insufficient infrastructure, While college is offering 10 undergraduate courses it has only 13 lecture halls. 2. The college has inadqueate Regular teaching staff. 3. The college has been running in shift system from 12.30 to 5.30 as the college building is being shared with Government Degree College (W), Gadwal. Due to this it had become a great challenge conducting Extra & Co-curricular activities. 2.1.6. Action Plan for Future: 1. The college has submitted a proposal for construction of additional classrooms with 12 crores estimation to the UGC. 2. The govt. of Andhra Pradesh sanctioned Rs. 1.34 crores for construction of Silver Jubilee block 2.1.7. Significance of RUSA in contributing to growth of institution: The institution was established in 1960 with meager temporary sheds with 5 UG courses. The strength of the college was only 250 in 1960. The present strength has crossed 2000 yet the infrastructure of the college remained the same. There must be a government authority to look after the infrastructure development of the institution. It is strongly believed that RUSA would fulfil this gap that has been there for many years. 2.2.SWOT ANALYSIS 2.2.1: Methodology used for SWOT analysis: Through Brain Storming, SWOT analysis for college is done. 20 lecturers participated in the Brain Storming Session. Sri. P. Krishna Murthy, Lecturer in English conducted the session and prepared the SWOT analysis. 2.2.2: SWOT ANALYSIS: 2.2.2.1: STRENGTHS: Well equipped laboratories. UGC-NET resource Centre All the Departments are fully provided Computers with internet facility. Two Smart Class rooms with interactive Board. Re-structured Courses such as B.Sc. (MPCS, MZC, BBC), B.Com Computers and B.A. (EPML). Computerized Library having nearly 40000 books. Advanced JIM facility. Experienced Faculty. Academic atmosphere with learning culture. ROR mineral water plant. A big seminar Hall for conducting Seminars/Competitions etc. Computer Labs with well maintained systems. Higly cooperative and coordinating CPDC members who are interested in education.

Almni of the college: always ready for extending their helping hand round the clock. Organizing certificate courses. Good governance with spirited team work would enable every one to involve in the Academic activities allowing the students to reach the the society in return which is ultimate motto of education and one of the points of vision of the institution. NSS: Four NSS units have been actively organizing Blood Donation Camps, Health Camps and NSS camps. 2.2.2.2. WEAKNESSES: The college has been running in shift system from 12.30 to 5.30 P.M as the college building is being shared with Government Degree College (W), Gadwal in the morning session. Though the infrastructure is put to optimal utilization, the conduction of Extra & Co-curricular activities by our college is becoming difficult. Lack of sufficient classrooms. Insufficient Regular teaching staff. Lack of skilled non teaching staff. Admission requirement is higher than the sanctioned strength as this is the only college catering the higher education for two legislative constituencies i.e. Gadwal and Alampur. Lack of sufficient play ground. 2.2.2.3. OPPORTUNITIES: JKC: Scope for training employable skills to the students and help them settle in their life with jobs. Certificate Courses: Short Term Certificate Courses equip the students with additional skills and knowledge. NSS: Scope for involving the students in the community development activities. Alumni: Well settled Alumni is always ready to extend their moral support for college developmental activities. CPDC: Very active and educated CPDC members who work for the development of the college. Moral support of Smt. D. K. Aruna gaaru, the minister in Govt. of Andhra Pradesh who is local MLA. Celebration of Golden Jubiliee Function resulted sanction of 1.34 crores by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh for construction of Golden Jubilee Block. 2.2.2.4. THREATS: Dilution of standards in imparting quality education due to heavy intake.

Insufficient transport facilities from remote villages are leading to low attendance of students. Most of the students belong to the poorest section of society who has to work for their daily bread and find time to attend the classes. Lack of motivation from the parents and society among the students for indulging in serious learning. Lack of basic skills and general awareness among the students. 2.2.3. Inferences derived with respect to strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats: 20 additional classrooms have to be built immediately to improve academic standards. Shift system has to be wound up immediately and college has to be run from 10 AM to 5.00 PM. Get full fledged teaching and non-teaching staff. Improving and modernizing infrastructure facilities. Improving student attendance. Deputing non-teaching staff to trainining classes to make them skilled. Establishing a well equipped centralized computer lab. Training the staff in basic computer skills. 2.3.STRATEGIC PLAN 2.3.1. Based on SWOT analysis the college has evolved the following strategic plan. Get 20 additional class rooms by sending proposals to various funding agencies like UGC, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh and now RUSA. Requesting the Govt. to provide own building to the G.D.C.(W) at the earliest to facilitate full time college hours. Requesting the Govt. to provide atleast Contract Faculty for the vacant posts incase if it is not possible to fill up all the sanctioned posts. Procuring Computers and other modern infrastructure in faced manner with available funds. Introducing Bio-metric attendance system to both students and staff. Organising training classes to the staff in basic computer skills. 2.3.2. The key activities proposed in the IDP and its link to the SWOT analysis: The college has proposed in the IDP for construction of 7 class rooms 5 Labs and 1 Computer Lab and 1 Toilet Block. These are proposed based on the inferences arrived after SWOT analysis. It is identified that getting additional class rooms has to be given high priority. Hence proposed 7 class rooms, 5 Labs and 1 computer Lab with Toilet Block. Actually we required many more class rooms but limiting ourselves to RUSA limits of 2 crores.

2.4.ACTION PLAN: 2.4.1. Improving employability of graduates: Recently LIC has adopted a new scheme known as Rural Career Agents. In this scheme students are appointed as Insurance Agents They would be paid a remuneration of Rs. 1500/- for first 6 months. After that the Commission would depent on their performance. It is proposed to encourage the poor students of our college to join the scheme and get benefit so that they could avoid going for daily labour by avoiding classes. JKC: is the available plotform to improve the employability skills to get jobs as soon as they complete their graduation. Every year the JKC is providing training to about 150 students in 3 batches. 2.4.2. Increased Learning Outcomes of the students: Preparation of Unit wise PPTs and use them while teaching. Conducting internal exams, Giving chapter wise assignments, Providing Student projects etc. Encouraging healthy academic competition by conducting seminars, workshops, Group Discussions, Quiz Programs etc. Providing Remedial Classes, Bridge Courses for the slow learners. Introducing Ward System to closely monitoring individual students. Strengthening the library. 2.4.3. Obtaining autonomous institution status within 2 years. It is felt that unless college become self sufficient in infrastructure it may not be possible to go for autonomous status. 2.4.4. Implementation of academic and non-academic reforms: In order to improve the academic standards API and AADPI are collected annually. Student Feed Back forms are collected and analysed once in a year. The CCE has made it mandatory to have academic audit every year to ensure effective conduct of academic activities. 2.4.5. Improving interaction with industry: Unfortunately this area is lagging behind in industrial development. Literally there is no industry that could provide jobs to the graduates. JKC of this college is depending on state level industries for getting employment opportunities to its trained students. 2.4.6. Enhancement of research and consultancy activities: In our college 4 members awarded Ph.D. degrees and 2 other members undergoing Ph.D programme. The department of Commerce is offering consultancy service to the Govt. Employees in submission of IT returns.

2.5.Action Plan for finishing School: JKC: provides employable skills to the students to give a finishing touch to the students to get jobs in the corporate sector. Career Guidance Cell provides counseling to the outgoing students in opportunities available in career and in higher education. 2.6.Action Plan for Strengthening PG programmes: There are no PG programmes offered at present. But the feed back from the students reveal the demand for PG courses in following subjects: o M.S.W. o M.Com o M.A. in Economics. o M.Sc. in Chemistry. o M.Sc. in Physics. But the poor infrastructure for the present offering programs refrain us from initiating any action in starting PG programs. Besides Gadwal has a separate PG centre managed by Palamuru University. 2.7.Training Needs analysis and Faculty Development Plan: Training in concerned subjects refreshes the knowledge and approach to subject. Hence the lecturers are always encouraged to attend the Refresher Courses and Orientation Programmes conducted by Academic Staff Colleges of various universities in Andhra Pradesh and else where in India. Besides Academic Staff colleges the lecturers are encouraged to present and attend National Seminars conducted by various institution in India so that they would update their subject. 2.8.Provide an action plan for training technical and other staff in functional areas: Through JKC, the teaching and non teaching staff are being trained in basic computer skills. 2.9.Relevance and Coherence of IDP Our college is in coherence with I.T. companies so that campus interviews to the students are going to be held in our college. English Department is conducting certificate course in Communicative English. We are planning to introduce JKC in pharmacy based course. 2.10. Participation of Departments / Faculty: All the staff members are involved in the preparation of IDP. All the staff members are divided into four groups. One convenor and 3 to 4 faculty members are allotted for each group. All the work relating to IDP such as collecting information about infrastructure, college results, library books, strength particulars, research capabilities etc given to each group.
