Can an Office program automatically
create hyperlinks for me?
Word can create hyperlinks for you.
When you type an e-mail address or
the address of a document located
on a network or the Internet, Word
automatically converts the address
to a hyperlink.
How can I create a hyperlink in an
Access table?
Display the table you want to contain
the hyperlink in the Design view. To
change the view, see page 436. Change
the data type of the appropriate field
to Hyperlink. To change the data
type, see page 442. Display the table
in the Datasheet View and then
position the insertion point in the
cell containing the text you want
to make a hyperlink. Click and
then erase the text that appears in
the Link to file or URL area. Then
perform steps 4 to 7 below.

to connect a word, phrase
or image in one document
to another document. A hyperlink
can take you to another document
on your computer, network,
corporate intranet or the Internet.
An intranet is a small version of
the Internet on a companys
network. You can create a
hyperlink in Word, Excel,
PowerPoint or Access.
You can easily identify hyperlinks
in a document. By default,
hyperlinks appear underlined
and blue in color. The color of
a hyperlink changes to violet
after the hyperlink is selected.
You can position the mouse
pointer over a hyperlink to display
the address of the document the
hyperlink will take you to. When
you select a hyperlink, the
document connected to the
hyperlink appears on your screen.
If the hyperlink you select is
connected to a Web page, your
Web browser will open and
display the Web page. Selecting
hyperlinks allows you to quickly
access information related to the
document you are working with.

your start page. Click Go and

How do I use the search page?
The search page displays an area
where you can enter a topic of
interest. Click the area and then
type a word or phrase you want
to search for. Press the Enter key
to display a list of Web pages
containing the word or phrase
you specified. Using the search
page will give you a good starting
point but will not find every page
on the Web that discusses a topic.

of a document that is on
your computer, network
or corporate intranet to open
the document.
You can also open a document
stored on the World Wide Web.
The Web is part of the Internet
and consists of a huge collection
of documents, called Web pages,
stored on computers around
the world. Each Web page has
a unique address, called a
Uniform Resource Locator (URL).

example of a URL.
If many people are working
with a document you want to
open, it may take a while for
the document to appear on your
screen. If a document is taking a
long time to appear, you can stop
the transfer of information.
While you are viewing a
document, the author may make
changes to the document. You
can easily transfer a fresh copy of
the document to your computer.
This allows you to view the most
up-to-date information.

the Web page.

I The next steps depend
on the program you are
currently using. In this
example, we are using
Word.

ou can save a document as
a Web page. This lets you
place the document on a
company intranet or the Web. An
intranet is a small version of the
Internet located on a companys
network. Companies use intranets
to distribute information such as
sales figures, phone directories
and product listings.
You can create a Web page in
Word, Excel, PowerPoint or
Access. When you save an
Excel spreadsheet or PowerPoint
presentation as a Web page, the
Internet Assistant Wizard starts.
When you save an Access database
as a Web page, the Publish to the
Web Wizard begins. These wizards
will ask you a series of questions.
Your answers help customize
the resulting Web page to suit
your needs.
When you finish creating your
Web page, you can transfer the
Web page to a computer called
a Web server. Once the Web page
is published on a Web server, it
will be available for other people
to view.
