One-Way and Two-Way Slab Design Guide

The document discusses the design of two concrete slabs. The first slab has an aspect ratio greater than 2, so it is designed as a one-way slab. Key details provided include dimensions, reinforcement size and spacing, load calculations, and checking that design requirements for strength and deflection are satisfied. The second slab has an aspect ratio less than 2, so it is designed as a two-way slab. Again, relevant design details are given and checks show the slab design is adequate.

Design of Slab

Here the aspect ratio Ly/Lx is greater than 2 hence the slab is designed as a one way slab.
OneShortEdgeDisContinuous:
Basic dimensions of slab = Lx Ly
3 6.5
Basic Ly/Lx ratio = 2.167 >2
Hence designed as an one way slab
Clear cover to reinforcement d' = 25 mm
Provided overall depth D = 150.00 mm
Effective depth d = 120.00 mm
Diameter of bar f = 10 mm
Select Grade of Concrete fck = 20 N/mm
Select Grade of Steel fy = 415 N/mm
Load calculation :
Dead load of the slab DL = 3.750 kN/m
Floor finish(Roof finish) FF = 1.9 kN/m
Live load LL = 1.5 kN/m
Total load TL = 7.150 kN/m

Hence designed as two way slab
