Carty writes a letter to her sister Adriana to provide reminders and advice as Adriana prepares to move her family from Selangor to Kansas City. She suggests that Adriana start planning logistics with movers, decide what to keep and dispose of through donations or a garage sale, and gather packing supplies. Carty also advises Adriana to research her new community's amenities and double check travel arrangements. Finally, Carty reminds Adriana to transfer insurance and medical records, register the children in their new school, and return any borrowed items.

Dear Adriana,
How are you? I am sure you and your family are excited about the move to Kansas City.
Mother and Father are doing fine and they send their love, especially to your twins, Hannah and
Joel. Mother asked me to write this letter to help you in your moving. She wishes she could be
there to help you but with Rodrigos new baby coming, Luciana needs mother here.
Well, the first thing to remember is organisation is the key for a smooth move and this is
the time to start planning the details of your move. Check with the movers to ensure your move
is scheduled. You definitely do not want to be delayed by them. This is also the time to decide
what items you wish to transport to your new home and what you may want to dispose of. If
you decide to get rid of stuff that you dont need, you should either donate them to a charity or
consider having a garage sale. Contact a local charity or pick a date at least two weeks before
the moving date for the garage sale. Mother says that the students at the university near your
place may want some of the items.
By now you would have started accumulating the moving and packing supplies that you
need if you plan to do your own packing or partial packing. Father says, some online websites
offer some good deals. Places like Freecycle also have people willing to give away moving and
packing boxes for free.
What about your new home? Have you thought about the layout of your new home? That
is helpful so that you can plan where you will place your furniture. This will take out the stress
of making decisions when your movers arrive with your furniture. The next piece of advice is
the most useful one I feel and you may have missed it in your list of reminders. Get familiar
with your new community. Local city councils will be able to provide you with information on
parks, community centres and recreational facilities. I am sure that your husband, Roberto, has
finalised and double-checked all the travel arrangements.
Oh yes, dont forget to contact your insurance agent to transfer medical, property, fire
and car insurance. That way these companies know about your move and your coverage will
still be active. I know that Joel has some medical problems and specific medications, so it is
advisable to have all the family's medical and dental records in a safe and accessible place. Be
sure to include prescription and vaccination records. That will be helpful when you notify the
new school in your new location and arrange for the transfer of school records and begin the
process of registering in new school.
I have a reminder of my own too. Please remember to return all the things you have
borrowed, especially your library books. I know how forgetful you can sometimes be. You

definitely don't want your fines adding up! All these reminders have really added up. I hope
they are helpful to you. Take care and stay safe. Love to everyone there.
Your loving sister,
Carty
