Scrambling vs Channelization Codes

Scrambling codes are used for cell planning to differentiate between cells, while channelization codes are used to differentiate services for mobile stations within the same physical channel. Scrambling codes separate different base stations in the downlink and different users in the uplink, while channelization codes separate physical and control data from the same terminal in the uplink and connections to different terminals within the same cell in the downlink.
