Printer Types and Peripheral Classification

A computer peripheral is a device connected to but not part of the core computer. Peripherals include input devices like keyboards and mice, and output devices like monitors and printers. Printers are output devices that print text or images onto paper and come in various types like laser printers, inkjet printers, and multifunction printers. Printers are important peripherals that can print, copy, scan, and fax documents.

A computer peripheral is a device that is connected to a computer but is not part of the core

computer architecture.

Types of Peripheral Devices:

1. Input devices, such as a mouse and a keyboard.
2. Output devices, such as a monitor and a printer.
3. Storage devices, such as a hard drive or flash drive.

Printer is a machine for printing text or pictures onto paper, especially one linked to a computer.

Different Types of Printer:

 Laser Printers - is an electrostatic digital printing process. It produces high-quality text
and graphics (and moderate-quality photographs) by repeatedly passing a laser
beam back and forth over a negatively charged cylinder called a "drum" to define a
differentially charged image.
 Solid Ink Printers - is a technology used in computer printers and multifunction devices
originally credited with creation by Tektronix in 1986.
 LED Printers - is a type of computer printer similar to a laser printer. Such a printer
uses a light-emitting diode (LED) array as a light source in the printhead instead of the
laser used in laser printers and, more generally, in the xerography process.
 Inkjet Printers - is a type of computer printing that recreates a digital image by
propelling droplets of ink onto paper, plastic, or other substrates. Inkjet printers are the
most commonly used type of printer, and range from small inexpensive consumer
models to expensive professional machines.
 Multifunction Printers - is an officemachine which incorporates the functionality of
multiple devices in one, so as to have a smaller footprint in a home or small
business setting (the SOHO market segment), or to provide centralized document
management/distribution/production in a large-office setting. A typical MFP may act as a
combination of some or all of the following
devices: email, fax, photocopier, printer, scanner.
 Dot Matrix Printers - is an impact printer that prints using a fixed number of pins or
wires. In contrast, inkjet and laser printers technically exhibit dot matrix printing, but they
are not considered "dot matrix printers".
 3D Printers - a machine allowing the creation of a physical object from a three-
dimensional digital model, typically by laying down many thin layers of a material in
succession.
Importance of a Printer:
Today’s printers can do a lot more than just print. Most of the printers on the market,
including the ones sold by Dean Office Solutions, are able to copy, scan, and fax as well.
