contributing to differences. Reference to various issues.

4. A Discuss the various features of the Indian Constitution. (15)


Answer: Features as parliamentary, federal, written, longest, division of powers, independence
of judiciary, supremacy of constitution and others.

4. B. Comment on the Fundamental Duties mentioned in the Indian constitution.
Answer: Eleven Fundamental Duties mentioned in the article 51 A.

5. A. Discuss the way in which democratic participation is ensured at the grass root level by the
73rd and 74th amendment to the Indian constitution.
Answer: Explanation of the amendments and the role of Panchayat Raj and Municipalities.

i. Concept of diversity as core strength for the nation: Importance of various regions and
communities in the development.
ii. Characteristics of tribal societies in India: common dialect, community living, common
topography, endogamous group, sense of unity.
iii. 8th schedule of Indian constitution: Reference to list of official languages, government
measures for the development of these languages.
iv. Ways to achieve communal harmony: Education, interaction, organizing common sports
and cultural events.
v. Concept of Local government: As the lowest tier of administration within a given state and
important for democratic process.
