INTRODUCTION:

1. Present Slide 1 of 02 LCD/OHP Slides 1.
2. Inform the students that the topic for the week will be “Introduction to Hospitality
Industry”
3. Ask the students: (answers may vary)
 What do you know about the hospitality industry?
 Have you been to any hotels?
 If yes, share your experiences.
 If no, what is your perception of hotels?
4. Discuss their answers and share your experiences.

Transition: “Let us understand the Hotel industry better.”

PRESENTATION:
I. The Hospitality Industry
100 min Lecture/Discussion
1. Inform the students that: (Roldan, 2016)
 The hospitality industry is one of the major sources of revenue and employment in
the Philippines as well as other countries.
 The word “Hospitality” refer to commercial services given to tourists and travelers
by establishments like hotels, resorts, tour and travel agencies, restaurants, tourist
attractions, and others.
2. Refer students to Section I of their 02 Handout 1 and ask a student to read the
definition of a hotel.
3. Refer students to Section IA of their handout and discuss the hotel and accommodation
(Search for additional facilities.

examples for slides 2- 4. Ask the three (3) to five (5) students if they have been to any accommodation facilities
5) mentioned in the handout. If the student/s answered yes, ask them to share their
experiences and if the student/s answered no, proceed to next discussion.
5. Refer students to Section IB discuss and explain the hotel management in your own
words.
6. Refer students to Section IC of their handout and discuss the hotel classification by
location.
7. Present Slides 2-5.
8. Discuss and explain in your own words the hotel classification in the Philippines.
9. Refer students to Section ID, discuss and explain the Hotel Organization.
10. Explain that:
 The first two (2) divisions are directly involved in operations and service delivery.
They are said to be at the “front of the house” since they are at the frontline and
situated in guest contact areas. Most of their service personnel are directly dealing
with guests that they are called “front liners”. “At the back of the house” are
administrative offices who are behind the scenes, meaning they are not in guest
contact areas and most of their personnel are not dealing with the guests.

Transition: “Let us proceed to video/film showing”

1. Inform the students that you are going to play a video about the hospitality industry.
2. Play 02 Video 1.
3. Instruct the students to watch attentively because you will have a short discussion after
the Video/Film Showing.
4. Facilitate a discussion about the video.

APPLICATION:
30 min Recitation
1. Ask the students some questions related to this topic.
2. It is your decision if this will be a graded recitation.

1. Inform the students that you will have a suite/front office room familiarization.
2. Tour the students to suite room/front office facilities in your campus and let them
familiarize the different parts of the room and its functions. Do more research on this
part since it is critical that they learn the different areas of a hotel. It is also best that
you use your experience in the industry.
3. Encourage the students to ask questions.
4. It is your decision if you will give an exam after the familiarization.
