Content Standard: The learner distinguish the different parts of a flower, how pollination takes
place and factors affecting seed germination in plant reproduction.
Performance Standard: The learner presents a cooperative and active exhibit to show the
importance of knowing the different parts of a flower.
Domain Literacy: Listening

class?
We have perfect attendance today,
let’s clap our hands class! Very Good
II. Lesson Proper
Since we are through with our
lesson last time, we are going to
explore a new topic about Parts and
Function of a flower. Are you Yes Ma’am
excited?
a. Activity ( Motivation )
Come Dance With Me
Class are you familiar with the song
“Bulaklak” sung by Viva Hot Babes? Yes Ma’am
Very Good! So now, you will be grouped
into three and each group will make a
simple dance step about the song.
Alright, please count 1-3 and please
proceed to your respective group ( The students will proceed to their
quietly. respective group )
I’ll give you five minutes to practice and
three minutes to perform in front.
Okay, Your five minutes start now. The
winning group will receive additional
points for the quiz later.
( After five minutes )
Class you may take your seat and group ( the class will present their presentations)
1 you may present your dance step
now.
( The teacher will announce the winning
group )
b. Analysis
After hearing and interpreting the song,
can someone give the meaning of the
song?

Excellent, all your answers are correct. world.
This morning we will discuss the
different parts and functions of flower Student2:Flowers beautifies our
surrounding
d. Abstraction
Class before discussing the parts of the
flower, Let’s take a look first at this
illustration of a gumamela flower.
Flowers like other plant structures, are
made up of different tissues and parts.
A flower is a modified stem that has
shortened internodes. However unlike
other structures in the shoot system
flowers do not grow continuously .They
are located at the apex of a shoot and
not along it, unlike leaves.
Did you get it? Yes Ma’am.
Did you know that flowers have two No, Ma’am.
main part?
A typical flower has two main parts-The
essential part and the accessory parts.
The essential parts are those directly
involved in sexual reproduction. These
include the pistil and the stamen. The
accessory parts are those that are not
directly involved in sexual reproduction
but facilitate it. These include sepals,
petals, bracts, receptacle and the
peduncle.
The best example of a flower having
those parts completely is the gumamela
flower.
Again, what are the two main parts of a The essential parts and the accessory
flower? parts, Ma’am.
Very good. Now let’s discuss the parts
included in the essential and accessory
parts of the flower.
First are the parts included in the
essential part. The pistil and the
stamen.
This portion is the pistil which is
composed of stigma, style and ovary.
The pistil is the female reproductive
part of the flower. The stigma is the
reception area for the pollen. It’s sticky
and velvety in texture.
Velvety means being smooth or soft.
A slender stalk for the passage of pollen
nuclei is called the style.
The ovary is the enlarged basal or base
portion that contains one or more
ovule-bearing units called carpels. Each
ovule contains the female gamete the
egg, and two polar bodies, which
become the endosperm. The
endosperm serves as food source for
the developing embryo.
Did you get it? Yes Ma’am.
Now, if the ovary is the female No Ma’am.
reproductive structure of a flower, do
you think it is possible to have a male
reproductive structure at the same
flower?
That’s right, but for some flowers only.
But for flowers like gumamela, it is
possible to have a male and female
reproductive structure at the same
time. And that male reproductive
structure is called the stamen.
The stamen is the male reproductive
structure of a flower. It is consists of
four chambers that are fused into a
structure called the anther.
Inside the anther are the pollen grains,
each of which contain the male
gametes, the generative sperm nucleus.
The filament supports and hold the
anther to the pistil.
So, those are the essential parts of a
flower.
Is there any question or clarifications None.
about it?
Then next is the accessory parts which
includes the sepals, petals, bracts,
receptacle and the peduncle.
The sepals, which are collectively
known as the calyx, are modified
leaves.
So these are the sepals.
They form the outermost part
surrounding and holding the petals and
at the same time, protecting the inner
parts of a flower.
Next is the petals, and these are the Student 1: Ma’am they are the colorful
petals. What can you say about them? part of the flower.
Student 2: Ma’am they smells good but
sometimes smells bad too.
Very good, all your answers were
correct. Petals, collectively known as
the corolla, are typically the brightly
colored parts of a flower. They usually
secrete aromatic substances and nectar
which are necessary to attract
pollinators.
Like insects.
The tip to which the floral organ is
attached is the receptacle.
The peduncle is the stalk of a single
flower.
This is the peduncle.
Again, these are the parts of the flower.
The anther and filament collectively
called stamen, stigma, style, and ovary
collectively called pistil, petal
collectively called corolla, sepal
collectively called calyx, the receptacle
and the peduncle.
Do you understand? Yes Ma’am
Is there any questions? None.
e. Application
After knowing the different parts and
function of a flower, we will have a ( the students will get ½ sheet of paper)
quiz.
Get ½ sheet of paper
First, you will label the different parts of Yes Ma’am
the flower and write the corresponding
function of that particular part. Is that
clear? You only have 5 minutes to label
and give the function of it so start
working.
( The student will answer )
( After 5 minutes )
Okay class pass your paper.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
Are all papers in? Yes Ma’am.
III. Homework
As your homework, I want you to have
a research about pollination and
variations in flower structure. Is that
clear? Yes Ma’am.
Okay class dismiss.
Goodbye class. Goodbye Ma’am
