Discuss the impact of media to globalization and vice-versa.
Media plays a vital role in globalization. Nowadays, media serves as an agent of
information dissemination across the world. Economic and cultural globalization would
be impossible without a global commercial media system to promote global markets and
encourage consumer values. Thus, countries all over the world become connected with
each other.
Media is a broad channel of communication that includes physical and online
newspapers, magazines, internet, radio, television, telephone, billboard etc. It describes
the various ways through which we communicate in society. This leads to influence
people in acquiring cultures, information and more. Media help in creating the globalized
world, and if globalization makes the world small because everyone is connected,
media make them interconnected.
On the other hand, globalization is a powerful process of interaction and
integration among people. With the information age, globalization went to overdrive. It
launched advances in computer and communication technology that gave to people to
become connected. Without globalization, media would be just a medium, a singular
term that refers to just one just channel.
As a whole, globalization and media should work together because they are both
keys to unlock the contemporary world. And as a time goes by, the progress of
globalization will also help the media to progress and vice versa.
What is the role of religion in global conflict? Explain. Does religion create more peace
or conflict? Justify your answer.
Religion has a purpose. Generally, it is a source of morality. It discriminates
wrongs and rights of an action. When someone’s action is accord with a specific belief
of a religion, then, it can consider as right. But if not, then it is wrong. Religion also
unites society. It serves as a social glue where people share common beliefs. On the
other hand, what about those who have different types of religion? Are those people
who have different views cannot be united? And this somehow made me think, if
religion creates more peace or more conflicts? Based on history, there are parts in the
world where religion causes conflicts between those people who have different beliefs.
For example, the conflict between Muslims and Christians in the Philippines years ago.
They were battling with each other, fighting for what they think is right. But then, the
government was there to help in solving their conflicts. The government helped them to
create peace leading to a harmonious relationship between Muslims and Christians. In
contrast, it also creates more peace. According to Mahatma Gandhi, the essence of all
religions is one, only their approaches are different. This would mean, respect for their
approaches is the key to avoid conflicts, I think.
In this contemporary world, religion can still serves it purpose only if people
become aware of what religion really means. No matter what modernity brings, it won’t
change the fact that religion is existed so people can be good, united, and mentally
submitted with its true essence.
