ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
A Project on Management Information System of
McDonalds
Lecturer ZunairaNaseer, IQTM assigned us to analyze and design the
Hostel Management System of the University of the Punjab.
We adapted different fact finding techniques to analyze the current
system. In this regard first of all we conducted an interview with Mr.
Adnan Ahmed (Manager at McDonalds).
This interview set the direction of our project. We also conducted a
survey among the working team and also the costumers to find key
problems and requirements for the new system.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Management information Systems (MIS), sometimes referred to as Information Management
and Systems, are the discipline covering the application of people, technologies, and
procedures — collectively called information systems — to solving business problems.
Management Information Systems are distinct from regular information systems in that
they are used to analyze other information systems applied in operational activities in the
organization. Academically, the term is commonly used to refer to the group of information
management methods tied to the automation or support of human decision making, e.g.
Decision Support Systems, Expert systems, and Executive information systems. The terms
MIS and information system are often confused. Information systems include systems that
are not intended for decision making. MIS is sometimes referred to, in restrictive sense, as
information technology management. That area of study should not be confused with
computer science. IT service management is a practitioner-focused discipline. MIS has also
some differences with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) as ERP incorporates elements
that are not necessarily focused on decision support.
We studied and analyzed the existing Management System of the McDonalds located at
Model Town Link Road Lahore.
This project was recognized to use and facilitate the management by the emerging modern
technologies. This will also help the students and users to solve their related problems. It will
reduce the time in report generations.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Brief explanation of Report contents:
This report initially describes the methods and procedures used to conduct a study of current
system. The next section summarizes the operation of the current system.
This is followed by a detailed analysis of the current system. We have identified and analyzed
the current system for problems, opportunities, and constraints. Then the decision phase
presents an update of possible solutions to be investigated in the next two phases.
COMPANY PROFILE
What is McDonalds?
McDonald's Corporation
is the world's largest chain of fast food restaurants, serving nearly 47 million customers daily.
McDonald's primarily sell sham, cheese burgers, chicken products, French fries, breakfast
items, drinks, milkshakes, and desserts. More recently, it has begun to
offersalads, wrapsandfruit. Many McDonald's restaurants have included aplayground for
children and advertising geared toward children, and some have been redesigned in a more
‘natural' style, with a particular emphasis on comfort: introducing lounge areas and
fireplaces, and eliminating hard plastic chairs and tables. In addition to its
signature restaurant chain, McDonald’s Corporation held a minority interest in Pret A
Manger (aUK-based sandwich retailer) until2008, and owned the Chipotle Mexican Grill
until 2006 and the restaurant chain.
Market until 2007. The company has also
expanded the McDonald's menu in recent decades to include
alternative meal options, such as salads and snack
wraps, in order to capitalize on growing consumer interest in health
and wellness. Each McDonald's restaurant is operated by a franchisee,
an affiliate, or the corporation itself. The corporations ‘revenues come
from the rent, royalties and fees paid by the franchisees, as well as
sales in company operated
restaurants. McDonald's revenues grew 27% over thethree years
ending in 2007 to $22.8 billion, and 9%growth in operating income to
$3.9 billion.
History of McDonalds
The business began in 1940, with a restaurant opened by
brothers Dick and Mac McDonald in San Bernardino, California. Their introduction of the
"Speedee Service System" in 1948 established the principles of the modern fast-food
restaurant. The original mascot of McDonald’s was a man with a chef's hat on top of a
hamburger shaped head whose name was "Speedee." Speedee was eventually replaced with
Ronald McDonald in 1963.
The first McDonald's restaurants opened in the United
States, Canada, Costa Rica, Japan, Netherlands, Germany, Australia and Sweden in order of

by Ray Kroc, in Des Plaines, Illinois on April 15, 1955 , the ninth McDonald’s restaurant
overall. Kroc later purchased the McDonald brothers' equity in the company and led its
worldwide expansion and the company became listed on the public
stock markets in 1965. Kroc was also noted for aggressive business practices, compelling the
McDonald’s brothers to leave the fast food industry. The McDonald’s brothers and Kroc
feuded over control of the business, as documented in both Kroc's autobiography and in
theMcDonald brothers' autobiography. The site of theMcDonald brothers' original restaurant i

company has become a symbol of globalization and the spread of the American way of life.
Its prominence has also made it a frequent topic of
public debates about obesity, corporate ethics and consumer responsibility.
Corporate Overview
Facts and figures
McDonald's restaurants are found in 119 countries and territories around the world and serve
nearly 47 million customers each day. McDonald's operates over 31,000restaurants
worldwide, employing more than 1.5 million
people. The company also operates other restaurant brands, such as Piles Café, and has a
minority stake in Pret a Manger. The company owned a majority stake in Chipotle Mexican
Grill until completing its divestment in October 2006. Until December 2003, it also owned
Donatos Pizza. On August 27, 2007, McDonald's sold Boston Market to Sun Capital Partners.
Types of restaurants
Most standalone McDonald's restaurants offer both counter service and drive-through service,
with indoor and sometimes outdoor seating. Drive-Thru, Auto-
Mac,Pay and Drive, or McDrive as it is known in manycountries, often has separate stations
for placing, paying for, and picking up orders, though the latter two steps
are frequently combined; it was first introduced in Arizona in 1975, following the lead of
other fast-
foodchains. In some countries "McDrive" locations nearhighways offer no counter service or
seating. Incontrast, locations in high-density city neighborhoodsoften omit drive-through
service. There are also a few locations, located mostly in downtown districts, that offer Walk-
Thru service in place of [Link] themed restaurants also exist, such as the"Solid
Gold McDonald's," a 1950s rock-and-roll themed restaurant. In Victoria, British Columbia,
there is also a McDonald’s with a 24 carat (100%) gold chandelier and similar light fixtures.
To accommodate the current trend for high quality coffee and the popularity of coffee shops
in general, McDonald’s introduced McCafé.

quickly following suit. After upgrading to the new McCafe look and feel, some Australian
stores have noticed up to a 60% increase in sales. As of the end of 2003 there were over 600

McDonald’s Pakistan history
McDonald’s first restaurant opened its door to the people of Pakistan in September 1998 in
Lahore. This launch was met with unprecedented enthusiasm from the citizens of Lahore,
who are known for their liveliness, vigor and penchant for quality food. Karachi opened its
first restaurant a week after Lahore. Ever since we opened the doors of our restaurants both in
Karachi & Lahore, we have been proud to provide our customers the same great taste,
outstanding value and superior service that is synonymous with the Golden Arches all over
the world.
There are now 44 restaurants in 16 major cities of Pakistan. (Karachi, Hyderabad, Lahore,
Multan, Faisalabad, Kala Shah Kaku, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi,
Jhelum, Peshawar, Quetta, Sahiwal and Bhera)
Today millions of Pakistanis place their trust in McDonald’s to provide them with food of a
very high standard, quick service and value for money. So next time you walk into one of our
restaurants, please remember, McDonald’s Pakistan is here now, to put a smile on your face,
each and every time you visit us.
McDonald’s is firmly committed to giving back to the community where it operates. We are
happy to become involved because we recognize that organizations have a role to play in
helping communities to work successfully. The contribution we enjoy most is the experience
of working together with others in the community to achieve worthwhile benefits for those
who need it most.

The present system in McDonalds starts from the Branch Manager
who is at highest post in a branch. The branch manager is head at a
branch which manages and resolves all the matters related to
administrative or management. Branch manager handles cash flow
and is responsible to provide information to head-office at Fortress
Square Lahore. Then comes 1st Ass. Manager who works with branch
manager and assists him. Then comes 2 nd Ass. Manager who works
with 1st [Link]. Then the shift manager handles the affairs of
changing shift of staff and deals their affairs. Then comes CREW-
TRAINER who guide and manages the lower staff like cooking staff
and cash counter staff and other lower staff. His duty is to check if all

PROJECT VISION
Our general vision is for McDonald's to end up noticeably a current,
dynamic burger organization conveying a contemporary client
encounter. Current is about getting the brand to where we should be
today and dynamic is about doing what it takes to be the McDonald's
our clients will expect tomorrow. To understand this dedication, we
are centered around to point out some of the basic improvements that
can be done easily which will help McDonalds to achieve a milestone
and to take their marketing strategies to next level by improving
theirsystems and other such things that made things more simple and
giving a world-class encounter that makes them feel welcome and
esteemed.
MANAGEMENT CONSTRAINTS
1. Plan of Goods and Services. McDonald's objective in this vital
choice region of operations administration is to give reasonable
items. In that capacity, the serving sizes and costs of its items
depend on the most mainstream customer desires.
Notwithstanding, some McDonald's items are limited in size to
make them more reasonable.
2. Quality Management. The organization means to amplify item
quality inside imperatives, for example, expenses and value limits.
McDonald's uses a generation line technique to keep up item
quality consistency. Consistency fulfills buyers' assumptions
about McDonald's and its image in this key choice territory of
operations administration.
3. Process and Capacity Design. McDonald's procedure and limit
configuration is fixated on productivity for cost-minimization that
backings the organization's techniques. This key choice territory
of operations administration concentrates on keeping up process
proficiency and satisfactory ability to satisfy showcase request. At
McDonald's, the generation line technique amplifies proficiency
and limit use.
4. Area Strategy. McDonald's objective in this vital choice region
of operations administration is to set up areas for most extreme
market reach. McDonald's advertising blend incorporates
eateries, stands, and the organization's site and versatile
application as settings. Through these areas/settings, McDonald's
achieves clients in conventional and online ways.
5. Format Design and Strategy. McDonald's uses common sense
for this choice zone of operations administration. The technique
includes boosting space use in eateries and booths, as opposed to
concentrating on solace and extensive size.
6. Work Design and Human Resources. McDonald's human asset
systems include preparing for aptitudes required in the creation
line in eatery kitchens or generation territories. For this choice
region of operations administration, individual and hierarchical
learning are likewise accentuated to bolster McDonald's
authoritative culture.
7. Store network Management. The company's worldwide
production network bolsters its different areas around the globe.
McDonald's has a technique of store network enhancement for
this choice zone of operations administration. Such methodology
includes getting more providers from various districts to diminish
McDonald's production network dangers.
8. Stock Management. McDonald's objective for this key choice
region of operations administration is to limit stock expenses
while supporting eatery operations. The organization does not
straightforwardly pitch items and fixings to its eateries. Rather,
neighborhood and provincial delegates and merchants organize
with McDonald's eatery supervisors to deal with their stock.
9. Planning. McDonald's uses corporate traditions for planning,

TECHNOLOGY CONSTRAINTS
While going through this project and covering all the facts and figures and collaborating with all
group mates we had found and enlisted some of the major technology constraints that lack modern
needs;
One of the most technology lack McDonald’s have is there out dated computers and low specification
devices that are unable to meet costumer’srequirements and also waste too much time in ordering
booking and bill processing that has a bad impact both on McDonald’s marketing and reputation.
The other major drawback that we observed was there home delivery booking order basically they
have a large no of costumer’s but they don’t have a proper way to order something online because
there app is to slow to order and most of the time the app is not working that also lacks basic
requirement of costumer’s needs.
Most of the branches of McDonald’s also don’t have a facility to pay through Credit or debit card
except a few of their main branches. This is the most basic thing that can have a great effect on their
sales and other such things while competing the other brands like burger king kfc and timmys.
Most of the staff they have are well versed how to operate a simple management information software
to book order and for billing purpose but they don’t have facilities to save the time of their costumers
