Storm Water Calculation for Ibri Park

The document provides calculations for storm water runoff from a 3 square kilometer catchment area for an industrial park in Oman. Using the Rational Formula with a rainfall intensity of 55mm/hr and runoff coefficient of 0.95, the peak flow is calculated as 54.4 cubic meters per second. As a check, Chezy's Formula is also used to calculate the peak flow rate, yielding a value of 59.55 cubic meters per second. Both calculations indicate the storm water infrastructure design has sufficient capacity for a 100-year rainfall event.

CALCULATION

Storm Water Calculation A = 3 Km2

Considered Rainfall as 55mm/hr Calculation:

Q = 1.25 x 0.278 x 0.95 x 55 x 3
The Rational Formula
𝑄=𝐹∙𝑘∙𝐶∙𝑖∙𝐴 = 54.4 m3/s
Where: Chezy’s Formula:
Q = Peak flow (m3/s). 𝑄=𝐶∗𝐴∗√𝑅∗𝑖 (Taken from Hydrological and Hydraulic report)
F = Factor related to the return period of the studied event Where:
K = Conversion factor equal to 0.278. Q = peak flow rate [m3/s];
C = Dimensionless runoff coefficient. A = wetted cross-section area [m2/s];
I = Rainfall intensity for a specific time of concentration and storm return period (mm/h) R = hydraulic ray [m];
A = Catchment area contributing to the flow (km2). I = slope of the project channel [m/m];
The factor F related to the return period of the studied event is 1.25 for the RP=100yrs event. C = Chezy coefficient
The runoff coefficient C is determined for urban or rural areas according to the criteria as shown in
C=1/𝑛∗𝑅1/6
OHDS 2017.
With:
C = Chezy coefficient;
R = hydraulic radius [m];
n = Manning’s roughness coefficient [s/m1/3];

Input:
A = 22957.68 m2/s (Top width 1300mm, Bottom width 700mm, Depth 1000mm, Total Length 8318m)
R = 1.15m
I = 1/200
n = 0.013 s/m1/3 (refer below table 1).

Input:
F = 1.25
K = 0.278
C = 0.95
I = 55

STORM WATER
CALCULATION

Calculation:
C = 1/0.013 x 1.151/6
= 76.92 x 1.02
= 78.46
Q = 78.46 x 31295 x √1.15 x 0.005
= 78.46 x 30558.6 x 0.0000330625
= 59.55 m3/s
Hence over design is safe.
