40% weighting Due: Friday, March 4

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is for student teachers to learn unit planning through engaging in the
development of a detailed plan for a unit of instruction. The intent is that you plan a unit of instruction that will be
implemented in your PS II practicum. Units can be completed individually or in groups of up to three people.

A template will be provided but you are not required to use it, though it may assist you in ensuring that you’ve met
all the requirements for this assignment. You can model your Unit Plan using the UbD framework or the PBL
framework.

Description of Unit Plan: You are free to choose any grade level and focus/theme/topic for your unit provided that the
Mathematics curriculum outcomes provide the core focus your unit is designed to teach, and your unit assessment
plan is designed to measure.
Your unit plan should include the following elements:
• an overview/rationale;
• a listing of resources and materials;
• a learning plan (unit calendar) including introductory activities, sample learning activities and instructional
strategies, and daily assessment considerations;
• full plans for the first three lessons in the unit.
