UNIT-I: D.C. Circuits
Current:
The time rate of change of charge, measured in
amperes (A).
Mathematically,
q t
d
i
dt
1 ampere (A) = 1 coulomb/second (C/S).
The charge transferred between time t1 and t2 is
obtained by
t2
q i dt

UNIT-I: D.C. Circuits
Electrical potential:
Charged body capacity to do work is known as its
electrical potential.
Potential difference:
The voltage or potential energy difference between two
points in an electric circuit is the amount of energy
required to move a unit charge between the two
points.

UNIT-I: D.C. Circuits
Electrical Power:
The rate at which an electrical work done in electrical
work is called power. It is denoted by P. units are
joules/sec or watt .
Power is obtained as a product of Voltage (V) and
Current (I).
P = V*I
According to ohm’s law V = I*R; I= V/R
Then power P = I2 R = V2 /R
