FILIPINO VALUE SYSTEM
Felipe Landa Jocano (1930-2013) was a Filipino anthropologies,
teacher and scholar. As early as 1966 Jocano and his associate start-
ed doing research on Filipino values. Jocano says that a value is
something positive and therefore desirable. Thus there is no such
thing as negative Fiipino value. He says that there are only wrong us-
es of the values because our models for value analysis are Western –
particularly those used by former colonizers and foreign observers”
There is a need to reevaluate our perception of Filipino value so that
they can be channeled into something worthwhile and meaningful for
the lives of the Filipinos.

The Filipino always see themselves as part of a larger community, that
there is a basic equality among people. The value of kapwa serve as
Filipinos basis for giving prime importance to harmounious relation-
ship and solidarity.
Feelings
Damdamin is also one the important values for Filipinos Emotional
Dangal – It is translated to dignity, honor or reputation, We usually
hear Filipino says “Hindi na baleng mahirap, basta marangal. “Hindi
ko pakakainin ang aking mga anak ng galling sa masama.
Dangal. Includes knowing what is morally right, feeling what is moral-
ly good, and acting in a way that morally desirable.
“Jocano says the concept of dangal includes knowing what is morally
right,feeling what is morally good, and acting in a way that morally
desirable. It is of course admitted that many Filipinos especially in
business and politics violate the value of dangal.

A security guard , which happen to be your brother-in law has been
discovered sleeping on his post. He was so sound asleep that a co-
worker was able to unhook the officer’s keys from a loop on his belt. A
