candidate?
– Eager to Learn, team player, Flexible schedule,
Doesn’t always have to have experience, and a
lifelong learner
[Link] there any special training or experience beyond
the certification teaching license that is desired?
– Yes, professional development to enhance
learning, and any new curriculum.
[Link] subject areas and what grade levels have the
greatest need?
– 4th grade, Reading, math, they always put the
most experienced teachers on these levels.
Kindergarten is more of an emotional level.
[Link] should a teacher-canidate know about the
students and families in this district?
– Demographics, being active in the community
[Link] are teachers evaluated?
– T test system, formaltitve observation, planning,
instruction, observation, walk throughs

– Its a 22-1 ratio, 5 teachers per grade level
[Link] the district have mentor programs for new
teachers, and if so how do they work?
– Yes, it has to be a First year of teaching
overall Teacher, they will be assigned to an
experienced teacher, it varies to subject. There
mentor will be doing walk in’s throughout the year
and evaluating you.

– We have 625 children total this year, were a pre-
K - 5 school, 3 teams made to the world robotics
champion ship, and we are a blue ribbon school.

Teacher Interview:
[Link] factors contributed to your decision to teach
this subject and at this grade level?
– Certified EC-4, She always knew she wanted to
teach a younger grade either 1st grade or
kindergarten.
[Link] do you enjoy most about teaching this
curriculum? What is most challenging?
– Provides a lot of opportunities to help children
get a hands on experience.
– Behavior, So many different levels that you need
to fit to each child’s needs, ranging from highest
to lowest.
[Link] do you go about selecting what content and
skills to teach?
– Following the TEKS, and collaborating with the
other elementary school teachers
[Link] you try to offer different perspectives
(multidisciplinary, multicultural) on these topics?
– Yes, as much as possible because everyone comes
from a different background.
[Link] there areas of this subject that are
controversial? How do you hadle these controversial
topics?
– There’s not really any controversial topics in
kindergarten, we hope that the parents deal with
controversial topics at home.

your classroom?

– Differentiation, Some worksheets on TPT,
modifying your curriculum, looking at needs and
making sure they get everything they need.
[Link] do you assess learning and record grades? Does
your school or district require a certain format?
Do you use grading software?
– Testing is put together through the district, we
test every 9 weeks, it changes throughout the
years.
– Grades, we can use a google sheet or paper
recording, then we can put it into the system from
there. We use Skyword to put grades in.
[Link] do you do your planning? The week before, the
night before? Other?
– We have summer meetings to get an over look on
how the upcoming school year will be planned out.
Then we meet weekly as a team to plan the next week
to make sure we are all on the same page ,and not
falling behind or going ahead.

program?
– Since were in kindergarten, we teach all
subjects, so yes we integrate all subject areas.
10. How do the school districts official
curriculum, national core standards, and the
textbook shape your decisions?
– A lot because you have to use the curriculum, but
that doesn’t mean we don’t add to it, but its a big
factor
11. Can you make your own decisions as to what
topics to teach, or are you confined to the
official school curriculum?
– There is wiggle room, but we still need to
integrate the school curriculum

12. Are selections made by you alone or with others
in your department or grade level team?
– Its a team decision
13. Do professional associations influence your
decisions?
– No, they do not.
14. Do parents or students participate in deciding
what is taught?
– Parents no, and students no as well, but if
something interest the students we will talk more about
it, there is always wiggle room to add an extra day or
so.
