1. COURSE DESCRIPTION
1.1. Course Objectives

The objectives of this course are:

1. give students direct experience of working with civil society organizations involved in social
work;
2. introduce students to the diversity and complexity of the needs and issues of everyday
engagement with socially vulnerable groups;
3. inspire a methodical interaction between a theoretical engagement in theology as a scholarly
discipline, and a practical, experiential engagement in civil society organizations.

1.2. Prerequisite

There are no prerequisites for this course.

1.3. Learning outcomes for the Programme the course belongs to

1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of basic themes in practical theology and


recognize the connections between theological-religious theory and ecclesial, religious, and
social praxis.
2. Apply the acquired knowledge to evaluate the role of the Church and Christianity in the life of
the humanity and society of today.
3. Critically assess individual segments in the relationship between the Church and the
contemporary individual and society.
4. Clearly and expertly present the acquired knowledge in an essayistic form.
5. Independently and jointly with other experts and participants, put forward ideas and propose
solutions in one’s ecclesial and/or social community.
6. Make appropriate judgments in complex contexts.
7. Act based on the ethical principles of the profession.
1.4. Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

1. identify and describe the various modes of action of particular civil society organizations;
2. demonstrate the ability to actively and empathetically listen to all involved parties in a given
situation;
3. demonstrate the ability to complete tasks in social engagement under the guidance of a
mentor;
4. analyze the social issues and needs observed within the context of civil society
organizations, and then evaluate, apply, and contextualize the previously acquired
knowledge, especially knowledge acquired through the course Social Engagement of the
Church;
5. through interaction with immediate experience and newfound insight gained through field
teaching, self-evaluate previously acquired knowledge and assumptions about social
engagement.

Student's engagement in field teaching will be monitored during the course of the semester.
Upon completion of field teaching, the students are required to hand in their final essay.
